Putin agrees fighting in Ukraine must end but says any plan must lead to "enduring peace"

I doubt many will disagree with them words in isolation. However, he has chosen them carefully to be deliberately true but at the same time, ambiguous.

The problem is, anything less than Ukraine coming back into Russian orbit wont be accepted by the Kremlin. Therefore for anything like Ukraine wanting the right to determine their own future, have a sovereign identity, chose their own allies, mine their own resources, elect their own officials, these will not be see as enduring peace by the Kremlin.

Under Russia's constitution the illegally annexed parts of Ukraine are 'Russia' according to them. That is Putin's position. It's been clearly stated over and over.

A rational person would say 'Well clearly you don't want peace then' but not sure the American administration are in that space.

Here are some of the Russia requirements via REUTERS from extensive list:

Reuters reports that Russia has presented the United States with its list of demands for a deal to end the war in Ukraine and restore diplomatic relations with Washington.

The conditions reportedly include:
  • Ukraine's non-membership in NATO,
  • an agreement not to deploy foreign troops in Ukraine after the war,
  • and international recognition of Russia's claims to Crimea, as well as the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions in southeastern Ukraine.
Officials said the list was "extensive" and similar to previous demands made to Ukraine, the United States and NATO.

Putin's demands are exposing Trump's naive approach to international politics in a far more dangerous way than his escalating tariff wars.

Did he even realise how much he'd conceded to Putin just to engage him?

Trump had a phone call with Putin. He says he appealed to Putin to spare the lives of surrounded Ukrainian troops in Kursk.

We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end

— BUT, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION.

I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!

Ukraine, and some reports in the British media, have denied that the troops are surrounded. Why would Trump do this? Is he trying to make Putin out to be some sort of "caring" person?

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna called for the suspension of Hungary's voting rights in the Council of the European Union for systematic actions against Europe's common interests.

Tsahkna commented on the extension of the EU sanctions list for six months, which was delayed due to Hungary's demands – and for which three Russian oligarchs had to be excluded from the list.

"For political reasons, Hungary made the continuation of sanctions dependent on the exclusion of Russian businessmen Vyacheslav Kantor, Mikhail Degtyarev and Gulbahor Ismailova from the sanctions list," he stressed.

The Estonian Foreign Minister stressed that there are no grounds for lifting and easing sanctions against Russia, as it has not abandoned its goal of seizing Ukraine and changing the European security architecture.

"Hungary is systematically working against Europe's common security interests, and therefore we must quickly take concrete steps and move forward under the Article 7 procedure, i.e. the suspension of Hungary's voting rights," Tsahkna added.

Well said, except it should have been said and done at least 3 years ago.

It's propaganda, there is no encirclement in Kursk.

The only western source amplifying it is Donald Trump. Don't be surprised if next week the Russians come out with that they allowed the encircled Ukrainians to leave Kursk peacefully but once they weren't encircled they attacked poor Russia and Russia who has only ever wanted peace was fooled again.

Well said Macron:

It is for Kyiv, not Moscow, to decide whether peacekeeping troops should be deployed to Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron says.

"Ukraine is sovereign. If it asks for allied forces to be on its territory, it's not something for Russia to accept or not," he told French media.

Colour me shocked. No one could've seen that coming….other than millions who didn't vote for him that is.

I'm telling you: "no one has been tougher on Putin than me".

Might as well just give Putin as much of Europe as he wants. It's time we completely disengaged from the US. The next step for Trump will be to directly threaten Europe if we don't give the Kremlin goblin everything he wants. Trump is being played like a fiddle.
