A positive step with the weapons, but giving Putin 50 days means a whole lot of damage can, and probably will be done, in that time. And again, what does a deal look like, something that favours Russia?

First signs of public discontent. Is this the first misstep by Zelensky's government?
Watched this video earlier on the protest issue

I'm in no position to comment as I've no clue on the history of Ukraine's politics, etc. It was an interesting watch, less than 10 minutes also.

As Ukraine was conducting its 2022 counter-offensive, Musk ordered Starlink to shut down.

A previously unreported order by Elon Musk to cut satellite communications over a portion of Ukraine disrupted a counteroffensive by Kyiv in the autumn of 2022.

It isn't clear what prompted Musk's command, when exactly he gave it, or precisely how long the outage lasted. The three people familiar with the order said they believed it stemmed from concerns Musk expressed later that Ukrainian advances could provoke nuclear retaliation from Russia.

Donald Trump has presented a new, shorter deadline for Russia to agree to a ceasefire over the war in Ukraine of "ten or 12 days" from Monday.

The US president said there was "no reason" in waiting any longer as no progress towards peace had been made.

Two weeks ago, Trump said President Vladimir Putin had 50 days to end the war or Russia would face severe tariffs.

Speaking at a news conference in Scotland, Trump said he would confirm the new deadline on Monday or Tuesday, but reiterated the threat to impose sanctions and secondary tariffs on Moscow.
Earlier in July he said those would amount to 100% tax imposed on any country that trades with Russia.

I wouldn't trust Trump as far as I could throw him. We've heard his patter about being tough on Putin with no fruition more times than I've had hot dinners this year, but reducing his self-imposed 50-day deadline to 10-12 days should mean he has a plan to do something. Otherwise, why say it and make himself look weak and foolish?

I won't hold my breath, but there does appear to be a glimmer of hope this isn't the usual shite from him.

Donald Trump is open to meeting with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the White House says.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump was pleased with the "great progress" made during today's meeting between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin in Moscow.

"The Russians expressed their desire to meet with President Trump, and the President is open to meeting with both President Putin and President Zelensky. President Trump wants this brutal war to end."
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt

Earlier this evening, a report from the New York Times said Trump intends to meet with Putin in person as soon as next week.

The report added that Trump plans to follow up the meeting with another meeting between himself, Putin and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Again, a lot of murmur about the potential ceasefire...as it always is with Trump, I'm extremely cautious, but the Kremlin has just announced that Trump and Putin are going to meet/talk in the next few days.

Zelenskyy has also said (after discussing the results of Witkoff's visit to Moscow with Washington) that "it seems that Russia is now more committed to a ceasefire, the pressure on them is working". I don't think he's willing to simply rehash Trump's talking points on the matter, so who knows, maybe there's something concrete here.

I personally don't believe that Putin's going to back down and propose realistic terms for a ceasefire agreement (I'm not even talking about fair terms... just realistic ones). But I want to believe.

Donald Trump says there will be "some swapping of territories to the betterment of both sides" involved in a peace deal for Ukraine.

Speaking at the White House, he said: "You're looking at a territory that's been fought over for three and a half years. A lot of Russians have died. A lot of Ukrainians have died.

"So we're looking at that, but we're actually looking to get some back, and some swapping.

"It's complicated, actually. Nothing is easy. It's very complicated. But we're going to get some back.

"We're going to get some switched. There'll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both."

Trump added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is "going to have to get ready to sign something".

You ever get the feeling that it's just going to be Ukrainian land swapped?

I assume Russia will only agree to and push for a deal that suits them and completely fucks Ukraine up

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that Ukraine will not give up land to the "occupier".
"Of course, we will not give Russia awards for what it has done. The Ukrainian people deserve peace," Zelenskyy says.

He adds: "The answer to the Ukrainian territorial question already is in the Constitution of Ukraine.

"No one will deviate from this – and no one will be able to. Ukrainians will not gift their land to the occupier.

"Ukraine is ready for real decisions that can bring peace.

"Any decisions that are against us, any decisions that are without Ukraine, are at the same time decisions against peace.

"They will not achieve anything. These are stillborn decisions. They are unworkable decisions."

All in an attempt for Trump to get his Nobel Peace Prize, with the promise that if the deal is not agreed to by Europe, the UK, and Ukraine, the USA will pull out weapons deliveries to the front line and possibly even threaten to withdraw from NATO.
