I really wanted to like this but I thought it was a lot of rubbish, tbh.

I watched a documentary on BBC4 which was much better viewing and mentioned it in the Must See Documentaries thread

I enjoyed it for what it was. Sure it's "based" on the book but if you ignore that then it's an ok way to spend an hour or so watching tv.

The documentary that David76 mentioned was bloody brilliant though.

Ben Macintyre is a great writer, I've read a few of his books on the Cold War.

The problem here is the BBC haven't done the book any justice with this dramatised series which has received the Peaky Blinders makeover. I'm a fond student of the events of WW2 but its glorification and this faux romantic narrative it seems to have with our population.

I think people need to watch it as an entertainment show and not some fact-based history programme.

If it's half as good as the first series it will be the one of the best things on TV.
