The Houston Texans have agreed to terms with 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their next head coach, the team announced Tuesday.

• Ryans has spent the past two seasons as San Francisco's defensive coordinator.
• In 2022, the 49ers had the NFL's top-ranked defense in yards allowed per game (300.6) and points allowed (16.3).
• Ryans spent six seasons as a player with the Texans where he won defensive rookie of the year honours and was named to two Pro Bowls.

The NFL's salary cap will be a record $224.8 million per club next season, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed on Monday.

• The cap is growing by $16.6 million from 2022's total of $208.2 million.
• Last year's cap number was an increase of $25.7 million per club from the 2021 cap, which was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
