The Whisky/Whiskey Thread Food & Recipes

Son Of Jack Enthusiast
I know loads of people that don't like The Scotch, but are there any whiskey lovers out there?

I'm partial to Ardbeg, but have a taste for most of it to be fair.

What's your New Year dram of choice?

We did a 25-year bottle of Highland Park on Christmas Day last year and it was bloody lovely. Then we had a Laphroaig 10 on to bring in the bells on Hogmanay.

I mainly like Islay stuff but there are some other belters out there

I am largely dry these days except on vacation, but when I was younger a couple friends used to exchange old single malts for Christmas so I got to taste them. Laphroaig (from Islay) was one, I am pretty sure. Anyhow, I did develop a taste for old single malt Scotch which I would rank second to a nice red wine for my alcohol needs, but don't really drink it (or anything) much anymore.

Ardberg and Lagavulin are my favourites.

Laphroaig can be regularly found at £25 a bottle which is massive value for money. Ledaig from Mull is also a good shout.

Love peated malts. Laphroaig is outstanding but Glenkinchie is very nice if you want a really light malt

Dalmore 15 is a nice one. I used to like Jura before they changed for the worse.

Had a couple of glasses of Yamazaki (Sainsbury's has it) at the weekend. I'd forgotten how good this tasted. Maybe even better than I remember.

I love a Yamazaki. Oddly, their 10-year-old is the better of them.

Eily and I finished off a 12-year Balvenie doublewood last night and it is now one of my favourites.

Got given a bottle of 10-year-old Glenkinnchie yesterday. Looking forward to it immensely over the Christmas holidays.
