The post clearly describes the issue of tinnitus and seeks community input, but it could benefit from more details about the medical advice received and any previous treatments tried.

Had a build up of ear wax and stress. Now I have constant buzzing in my ears. The doctor gave me ear drops but seem not to be working has anyone else suffered and do you get used to it?

Any recommendations for treating tinnitus?

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing tinnitus. Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of an external sound source, and it can be caused by a variety of factors such as hearing loss, ear infections, exposure to loud noises, and certain medications.

While there is no cure for tinnitus, there are several treatments that can help reduce the symptoms. In addition to the ear drops recommended by your doctor, other treatments may include sound therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and medications to manage the underlying cause of the tinnitus.

It is also important to take care of your hearing health, including avoiding exposure to loud noises and wearing ear protection when necessary.

It is possible to habituate to tinnitus over time, meaning that your brain becomes accustomed to the sound and you may not perceive it as strongly. However, this is not guaranteed for everyone and it can take time.

I hope this information is helpful, but I would encourage you to follow up with your doctor and discuss any concerns or questions you may have about your tinnitus treatment.

Yes. And yes - but to an extent. You learn to live with it.

But it sounds to me like you have a form that may be manageable through medical intervention.

The methods of managing differ from individual to individual, depending on type and tone.

Your brain learns to 'normalise' it (there's another word but I can't think of it at the moment) so it becomes not as noticeable after a while. But it changes tone, in my case, then settled down to a constant hiss that is easier to manage. I don't know if my brain did that or the damage in my ear changed over time. But if it gets too bad (when I'm tired or stressed or just because… for no reason), I find a white noise generator helps.

But that may not work for you. Probably not. It serves to 'externalise' the sound in your head, which has the effect of your brain not finding it so alarming.

A key thing to do is stay positive. Try and remain calm. Use distraction techniques. Seek help to reduce your stress because that becomes mutually contributing and gets into a spiral.

And now I've typed all that my tinnitus is raging - because the more you think about it, the worse it gets. Take note.

Had it for about 15 years constantly, it's awful but manageable with background noise such as TV, music, or even general noise when you are out and about. It's one of them things the more attention you give it the more you will hear it, basically just have to get on with stuff and you will notice it less.

I've lived with tinnitus for about 3 years. Never bothers me too much but it's always there. Suppose I've learned to live with it.

Suffered from it since I was a teenager. Not too bad with background noise but struggle to sleep as a result when there is complete silence. Have to listen to waves or rain sounds to try and help sleep

Strangely though I have been taking magnesium tablets every day for the past month and it's been a lot better than it was

I've had pulsatile tinnitus for 11 weeks now and I believe it's from starting escitaloprám 😣 turns out it's a rare side effect.

It's only in one ear, at first I thought infection so got prescribed antibiotic spray then strong oral antibiotics but my doctor said zero infection, anyone else experienced this as a side effect of antidepressants? I've stopped taking the meds but it's not stopped :(

I've been struggling with tinnitus for a while and there are some nights where it keeps me awake 😔

It's constant high pitched ringing but gets worse when I'm stressed out.
