Gerard Butler is the only big actor of note in the film which I think he carries the film very well.

It's an end of the world comet type film, it's better than I thought it would be. It's done in a very different style to say something like Armageddon as this has a much more personal touch to it and focuses more on the moral dilemmas and sacrifices that would probably happen.

Synchronic with Jamie Dornan and Anthony Mackie. A simple but thought-provoking sci-fi that doesn't overly rely on special effects or spectacle and while I'm not Anthony Mackie's biggest fan, he's pretty decent in this.

Directed by the guys who made "The Endless" (available on Netflix) which is a stunning low-budget, high-concept movie. I'd say Synchronic is a bit more "mainstream" but it's a solid movie.

I watched The Man Who Killed Hitler Then The Bigfoot last night. Bit of a slow burner but with the excellent Sam Elliot and Aidan Turner I really enjoyed it

The Father

Anthony Hopkins delivers a whirlwind of a performance here, most brutally showing Alzheimers in all its misery. I can't remember a more sobering final act of a film, and I hope he picks up best actor at award ceremonies for the bravery alone it took to make this and perform his final scene.

Watched "The King" on Netflix, fantastic film set around Henry V and the Battle of Agincourt

The Man from Uncle (2015)

Threw this on for the kids as it was on Sky Movies, and was surprised at how good it was, considering I barely remember it being released. It's Guy Ritchie directing, between this and the RDJ Sherlock Holmes movies he knows how to adapt an existing story and keep it rattling along at an entertaining pace. It had a nice retro vibe without being too beholden to the original TV series, and Cavill and Hammer were pretty good in the lead roles (having seen this, I could envisage Cavill doing Bond). Very obviously setup for more movies at the end which I guess we won't now be getting.

Wind River. Great film, highly recommend. It's a murder mystery and, I think, a true story. Jeremy Renner on top form.

Black Swan.

Not a topic that I'm automatically interested in as far watching a film goes, however, Natalie Portman gives an excellent performance as does Vincent Cassel. At one point, I started to feel my interest wane a little but things soon picked up. I think one of its strengths was not being able to easily predict what was going to happen next.

A very good film.

Leave No Trace

Never heard of it prior to watching but took the plunger after positive reviews. Great film about father and daughter relationship undergoing massive transition when they are forced to move from their simple, outdoor life to the confines of modern life with knockout performances from Thomasin McKenzie and Ben Foster
