The Tories have taken a hammering in the elections in England this week.

They have lost over 40 councils and have lost over 1000 councillors with Labour and the Lib Dems making significant gains.

Key results at a glance:

  • Labour has gained 536 councillors and 22 councils - including the key battlegrounds of Swindon, Plymouth, Medway and Stoke-on-Trent, where the party are hoping for success at the next general election
  • The Conservatives lost 1,061 councillors and 48 councils, but won control of Torbay and Wyre Forest
  • The Liberal Democrats have gained 12 councils and 405 councillors, including the former Conservative strongholds of Windsor and Maidenhead, and Stratford-on-Avon
  • Almost 250 Green councillors were elected, and the party won its first-ever outright majority on a council in Mid Suffolk

Labour will win the next GE but I'm not sure Sir Keir Starmer is a proper leader.

Suella Braverman has published a highly controversial article without getting approval from the PM's office.

Rishi Sunak did not clear Home Secretary Suella Braverman's article attacking the Metropolitan Police for its handling of pro-Palestinian protests.

The PM's spokesperson said Downing Street is "looking into what happened" with the article.

But they added Mr Sunak had full confidence in the home secretary.

Thinking back to the 90s, "full confidence" often meant a sacking was imminent.

Braverman seems to be really keen to get the sack. Almost like she's got designs on leading what's left of this sorry bunch after the 2024 election loss.

PM Rishi Sunak has sacked Suella Braverman as UK Home Secretary after she was blamed for causing a rise in tensions over Armistice Day protests and claiming the police favoured leftwing protesters.

In a cabinet reshuffle, James Cleverly becomes the new Home Secretary and former Prime Minister David Cameron replaced Cleverly as the Foreign Secretary.

Take a minute to read that again, you read it right DAVID CAMERON

Honestly shocked he wants a return to politics.

He vanished after being the one ultimately responsible for the failed remain vote.

He's been lucky enough to have had enough shit happen in the years following to extent most people have forgot how bad a Prime Minister he actually was.

The absolute admission that the barrel can no longer be scraped to find anyone with even a basic competance. And so you go to Plan F

Tbh, Cameron, whilst being an idiot, is a level above every single person on that front bench.

I wonder if today marks the start of Cameron's return to front-line politics - perhaps he's thinking about the situation a year from now following a likely election loss.

He was a laughing stock when Prime Minister. Famously Donald Tusk was recorded laughing about him.

Britain doesn't have a foreign policy anymore, and hasn't done for years. We gave up our soft power and influence and left the EU without a plan for how we would find a new role for ourselves

I honestly think that Cameron is there to pretend - he will wander around some foreign capitals looking posh and hope that no-one notices that we haven't actually got a policy or influence or anything

PM Rishi Sunak has announced that the UK will be banning disposable vapes.

The announcement comes as part of ambitious government plans to tackle the rise in youth vaping and protect children's health.

Recent figures show the number of children using vapes in the past three years has tripled. Use among younger children is also rising, with 9% of 11 to 15-year-olds now using vapes.

Disposable vapes have been a key driver behind the alarming rise in youth vaping, with the proportion of 11 to 17-year-old vapers using disposables increasing almost ninefold in the last two years.

Good. Sick of seeing disposable vapes scattered around the streets and fields, absolutely disgusting. Should be prescription only like in Australia. The amount of kids (as young as 12 or 13) I see vaping around the village is crazy.
