The Tories have taken a hammering in the elections in England this week.

They have lost over 40 councils and have lost over 1000 councillors with Labour and the Lib Dems making significant gains.

Key results at a glance:​

• Labour has gained 536 councillors and 22 councils - including the key battlegrounds of Swindon, Plymouth, Medway and Stoke-on-Trent, where the party are hoping for success at the next general election
• The Conservatives lost 1,061 councillors and 48 councils, but won control of Torbay and Wyre Forest
• The Liberal Democrats have gained 12 councils and 405 councillors, including the former Conservative strongholds of Windsor and Maidenhead, and Stratford-on-Avon
• Almost 250 Green councillors were elected, and the party won its first-ever outright majority on a council in Mid Suffolk

Rishi Sunak did not clear Home Secretary Suella Braverman's article attacking the Metropolitan Police for its handling of pro-Palestinian protests.

The PM's spokesperson said Downing Street is "looking into what happened" with the article.

But they added Mr Sunak had full confidence in the home secretary.

Thinking back to the 90s, "full confidence" often meant a sacking was imminent.

I wonder if today marks the start of Cameron's return to front-line politics - perhaps he's thinking about the situation a year from now following a likely election loss.

He was a laughing stock when Prime Minister. Famously Donald Tusk was recorded laughing about him.

Britain doesn't have a foreign policy anymore, and hasn't done for years. We gave up our soft power and influence and left the EU without a plan for how we would find a new role for ourselves

I honestly think that Cameron is there to pretend - he will wander around some foreign capitals looking posh and hope that no-one notices that we haven't actually got a policy or influence or anything

Disposable vapes have been a key driver behind the alarming rise in youth vaping, with the proportion of 11 to 17-year-old vapers using disposables increasing almost ninefold in the last two years.
