Another head coach casualty today.

The Las Vegas Raiders fired coach Antonio Pierce on Tuesday, the team announced. He lasted just one full season on the job after getting promoted last offseason from interim coach.

"We appreciate Antonio's leadership, first as an interim head coach and this past season as the head coach," the Raiders said in a statement. "Antonio grew up a Raiders fan and his Silver and Black roots run deep. We are grateful for his ability to reignite what it means to be a Raider throughout the entire organization. We wish nothing but the best for Antonio and his family in the future."

The Raiders (4-13) lost 10 straight games this year before winning two of their last three games.

Mike McCarthy won't return as the Dallas Cowboys' coach in 2025, a team source said, as the team will move in a new direction after five seasons with the one-time Super Bowl-winning coach at the helm.

McCarthy wasn't great but I'm beginning to think Jerry Jones (and the Jones family) is the real problem in Dallas.

The Chicago Bears are hiring Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their head coach, league sources said Monday, landing arguably the most highly coveted head-coaching candidate in the NFL as they aim to stop a four-year playoff drought.

Chicago is turning to Johnson, one of the league's fastest-rising offensive coaches, hoping that pairing him with quarterback Caleb Williams could return the team to contention in the competitive NFC North.

Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett has requested a trade from the franchise.

The 29-year-old released a statement Monday publicly acknowledging his desire to be dealt from the franchise that selected him first overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

"While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent," Garrett said in the statement. "The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl."

Can't blame him, to be fair. He deserves to be on a better team. I wonder where he will end up?

The Los Angeles Rams have informed Cooper Kupp that they are seeking a trade for the star receiver, he said in a post on X on Monday, after he ended the season uncertain about his future with the team he helped lead to a Super Bowl victory.

"I don't agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA," Kupp wrote.

"Still, if there's one thing that I have learned over the years: there are so many things that are out of your control, but it is how you respond to these things that you will look back on and remember."

The leaders of the NFL Players Association made it clear Wednesday that adding an 18th game to the regular season is still a non-starter for most NFL players.

Based on comments NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has made over the last year when asked about a potential extension of the regular season from 17 to 18 games, one would get the sense that the 18th game is eventually coming.

"No one wants to play an 18th game. No one," NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell said Wednesday during the union's Super Bowl week news conference. "Some guys don't want to play 17 just given the toll it has on their body and the lack of time to recover. … Seventeen games is so lengthy that you're still dealing with injuries going into the next season. So, there are a variety of issues that hang off of the length of the season before any form of negotiation (would take place)."
