Starfield
Starfield is the first new universe in over 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity's greatest mystery.

In the year 2330, humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settling new planets, and living as a spacefaring people. You will join Constellation – the last group of space explorers seeking rare artefacts throughout the galaxy – and navigate the vast expanse of space in Bethesda Game Studios' biggest and most ambitious game.

Tell Your Story
In Starfield the most important story is the one you tell with your character. Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits. Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.

Explore Outer Space
Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.

Captain the Ship Of Your Dreams
Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.

Discover, Collect, Build
Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.

Lock and Load
Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.

Bethesda's space opera Starfield is officially delayed. The game was supposed to appear on November 11, 2022. Instead, it will appear in Q1 2023.

Bethesda didn't offer any detailed explanation for the Starfield delay, beyond citing quality control thoughts.

In a statement released via Twitter, the publisher noted that Bethesda Game Studios require more time on their project to make it the "best, most polished" title it can be.

"We can't wait to share our first deep dive into the gameplay for Starfield soon" says Bethesda. Expect that at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, which will take place on June 12.

Starfield needs no introduction. The game sells itself as an entertaining space expedition to "answer humanity's greatest mystery" and marks Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years. To help kill time and make the wait for the game more bearable, why not watch the video below for things we know so far about the Xbox-exclusive Bethesda RPG.

After years of anticipation, Bethesda has finally given us a first look at Starfield in action.

Initially expected to release in 2022, Starfield unfortunately caught a delay into 2023, which isn't surprising considering how little we saw of it. Well, the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase has given us our first proper look at the title.

Well, it definitely looks like a Bethesda title, for better or worse. The main question is whether it's like the Bethesda of old or the Bethesda of the last decade or so.

Absent from the Xbox and Bethesda developer showcase announced yesterday, the RPG is getting the stage all to itself.

Starfield is set to get its own dedicated showcase event sometime in the future, according to the Xbox and Bethesda developer showcase announcement published yesterday.

In ducking this month's showcase, it's leaving a pretty stacked line-up of games including Redfall, Elder Scrolls Online, Forza and Minecraft Legends to get some attention outside of the shadow it very well may have cast of the whole affair. The reason given for its absence in the blog post is as follows: "To dedicate the proper amount of time for a deep dive into Bethesda Game Studios' Starfield, a standalone show is in the works."

That certainly is written to imply that a major update is coming for the game, but now that we're firmly in the six month release window established by Bethesda in 2022, the lack of a firm livestream date has many out there thirsty for additional details.

It also leaves Starfield with a relatively small amount of time to roll out all of its pre-launch hype content, such as feature deep dives, dev diaries, etc. That being said, maybe it doesn't need too much time to build excitement purely due to the nature of the product. It's a fresh IP from Bethesda, a concept that has huge swatches of gamers worldwide watering at the mouth.

Starfield has finally received an ESRB rating of 'M'. While that in and of itself isn't the most riveting news in the world, the rating did reveal some new details regarding the contents of Bethesda's upcoming RPG.

Drugs are going to have a prominent position in Starfield. The fictional 'Aurora' drug can be acquired through "stealing or buying it", and there's a portion of the game in which the player must work in an "illicit drug lab." All in all, this implies we'll be seeing a lot of Aurora throughout our time with Starfield, be it as part of the overarching narrative or as some sort of side business.

The ESRB rating also tells players to prepare for violence in Starfield. We'll be using "guns, lasers, axes, and explosives" to combat enemies, and we're to expect plenty of gunfire, cries of pain, and explosions as a result. That sounds about right for a Bethesda RPG. There'll also be blood-splatter effects, blood-stained environments, and corpses for players to take caution of.

If drugs and violence don't bother you, then the next detail certainly won't; players won't always be going to bed alone in Starfield. The game contains "suggestive material in the dialogue" following "sharing a bed with some characters." Dialogue includes examples such as, "Talk about seeing stars, whew… that was amazing," and "I'm all for getting a little wild, but next time let's try it without the jetpacks." o_O

More details will surely be revealed now that Microsoft has confirmed the timing for its Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct airing on June 11.

The show will show a deep dive into Bethesda Game Studios' upcoming sci-fi RPG. Starfield Direct will tell us much more about the game than we already know. You can expect plenty of new gameplay, developer interviews, and behind-the-scenes insider information.

This does look really good, hard to know with Bethesda these days if it'll actually deliver or even be playable at launch but I'm cautiously optimistic. Microsoft really needs a win and they're hedging all bets on this so they must be confident.

Think the shooting looks pretty decent considering it's not a core fps game and how bad their combat/gun play has been in the past. Think ID Software helped them with that.

Be hard to choose between that and stealth. I like both but probably more optimal to go all-in on a style

I've not actually been fussed about Starfield. Which is strange given Oblivion is one of my favourite games ever, and Skyrim was brilliant. However this direct has pulled me in. Looks like a lot of fun.
