I expect normal service to resume this weekend, although the Ferrari should be suited to this track. Hopefully a good battle between Verstappen and Leclerc.

McLaren driver Lando Norris set the benchmark in a non-representative opening practice session at the Canadian Grand Prix as the field spent the majority of the one-hour session in the garages.

The Canadian Grand Prix weekend endured a slow start with a heavy rainshower and hailstorm arriving just an hour ahead of the beginning of the forst one-hour session.

Although rainy weather has been predicted for the session, nobody expected the intensity that hit the track.

The pit lane was closed for almost half an hours as track workers were intent on clearing the standing water that would have made any on-track action dangerous.

George Russell took Mercedes' first pole position of the season ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Russell and Verstappen set identical lap times of one minute 12 seconds dead but because the Briton banked his first he will start the race from first place.
