Thomas Tuchel has sensationally been sacked by Chelsea following Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, the club have confirmed.

The German was appointed as the successor to club legend Frank Lampard in January 2021 and led Chelsea to Champions League glory with a 1-0 over Manchester City in May of the same year.

Chelsea are expected to approach Brighton later today for permission to speak to Graham Potter about their manager vacancy.

Shocked by this but there are rumours that they decided before the game last night they wanted to get rid.

If think Potter would be better off staying at Brighton, he is building something special there and is already being talked about for the England job.

Pochettino and Zidane are also being linked with the Chelsea job.

What a weird decision. To spend that much money on his targets and then immediately sack him once the transfer window closes is a strange one.

Listened to a podcast on The Athletic earlier with David Ornstein and The Athletic's Chelsea correspondent. They are not surprised that Tuchel has been sacked but they didn't expect it this early in the season. Apparently, there had been rumours during Chelsea's pre-season tour in America that things weren't all rosy.

Chelsea were given permission to talk with Graham Potter this afternoon.

Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Graham Potter to take over as head coach at Stamford Bridge

The focus of talks this will now be on legal details of the contract and Potter's back room staff. The contracts not yet signed.

Disappointed that Potter looks like he is going to Chelsea.

He has been building something special at Brighton. If results don't go your way at a club like Chelsea you are soon out the door.
