Positive cases continue to rise and further restrictions could well be implemented, so what do we reckon they are going to recommend restriction wise?
I reckon they might go full circuit breaker. There are a few weeks left where they can utilise the furlough scheme before Scotland becomes fully at the UK governments mercy

- no socialising with any other household apart from childcare, adults who live alone and non-cohabiting couples
- WFH if you can, if not, still go to work if it's open
- pubs, restaurants, indoor leisure, indoor sports all to close
- outdoor sports 6 people from 2 households only apart from professional sport
- exercise as much as you want but only within 5 miles of home

I wouldn't be surprised if we are told to close gyms again. I've not heard anything official but rumours are going around that we might need to close again.

Apparently, there could be some "circuit-breaker" restrictions announcement on Friday according to a few media outlets.

New restrictions announced in Scotland
  • All pubs and restaurants across central Scotland - including in Glasgow and Edinburgh - are to be closed to all but takeaway customers
  • The five health board areas affected by the strictest rules are: Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Lanarkshire, Forth Valley, Lothian and Ayrshire and Arran
  • People in these areas are also being asked to avoid public transport
  • In other areas, licensed premises will be able to open until 6pm - but can only serve alcohol outdoors
  • The rules come into force at 18:00 on Friday and will be in place until 25 October
  • Cafes which do not have an alcohol licence will be able to stay open until 18:00
  • Snooker and pool halls, indoor bowling alleys, casinos and bingo halls will also close in the five health board areas for two weeks from 10 October
  • And contact sports for people aged 18 and over will be suspended for the next two weeks - with an exception for professional sports
  • Gyms can remain open for individual exercise

Not the best news especially for those working in the sectors with restrictions but I'm not surprised to see these measures introduced - I'm not sure closing pubs will make much difference in some areas because folk will just have more house parties.

Does anyone genuinely think that these measures are going to be lifted after 16 days? How many of England's local lockdowns have been in place for months on end?

This isn't a local cluster in an otherwise very low case scenario like the what the Aberdeen case was: you are not getting this widespread community transmission rooted out of the most populous area of the country by shutting the pubs for a fortnight. This will be maintained in some form or other until at least this side of Christmas IMO.

You don't need to have 20/20 hindsight to see that the decision to allow university students to go to halls was a massive mistake. An iota of common sense would have seen virtual learning implemented until at least Christmas. Now we are seeing a spike in cases throughout the UK in general.

No, you are probably right. This will probably be the pattern for a few months at least especially since there is no way of knowing how the virus will spread during the colder months.

One of my daughters stays in Nottingham where a local lockdown is imminent there after the infection numbers went up to 496 per 100,000 (4th highest in England). The approx 450 cases at University of Nottingham probably didn't help.

A new record. How has this been allowed to happen after the cases were so low a couple of months ago?

Westminster still waiting until Monday before introducing new restrictions for the north of England.

Nottingham is now up to 689.1 per 100,000 and in over Newcastle 1000 students have tested positive while Northumbria University had 619 new cases and Durham University had 219.

Fully expecting to be under lockdown restrictions from Monday. Seeing how quickly the cases have risen I'm not sure why they haven't been imposed already!

This. I don't understand the "wait until day X" reasoning, they know they are going to close pubs but it is like they are saying, go out this weekend and get smashed before they close. Just close them and get on with it, don't give it a chance to spread.
