Furlough scheme extended for businesses affected by local lockdowns. That will definitely mean the pubs and restaurants down south getting shut as well

This. I don't understand the "wait until day X" reasoning, they know they are going to close pubs but it is like they are saying, go out this weekend and get smashed before they close. Just close them and get on with it, don't give it a chance to spread.

So, obviously, the Scottish and UK Governments are trying to reduce the infection rate but are finding it too difficult without a full lockdown.

Opening pubs and cafes, only to have them close again weeks later, has been a mistake. Bringing students back has been a disaster. Local lockdowns aren't working. I don't want another lockdown but things are spiralling out of control again, don't you think if they want to kill the infection rate they have to lock the country down again?

Enforcement of the existing restrictions would help - face masks is the classic because so many just don't wear them - from the downright refusers to the "I've got asthma" drama queens - just too many not wearing them to make it effective.

No exemptions at all - if you can't cope with a face mask then should you even be outside?

Anyone who says they can't wear a mask due to asthma is lying and should be made to explain why doctors and surgeons can wear masks in baking hot wards and theatre suites whilst operating on people for hours upon end and they can't. Given plenty of doctors themselves do this whilst having asthma etc yet these people can't wear one in, for example, a supermarket?!

I can't see another option that is going to have a significant effect. If everyone had abided by the rules I don't think we would have seen such a high second wave but people obviously cannot be trusted to act in the public good.

Reports saying Tier 3 restrictions for England will include complete closure of pubs, casinos and gyms, however restaurants will remain open. Liverpool entering it tomorrow, according to a lot of journalists.

To be reviewed monthly.

Ontario has brought in tighter restrictions in our three hotspots (Toronto, Peel (a suburb of Toronto), and Ottawa). No indoor bars or dining, gyms closed, some other businesses. 28 days from Saturday so it comes up for renewal at the end of the month.

My city is having a rough ride right now, too, but is doing better than those three. We are only 4 share of our worst new cases today (20 today, worst was 24). No plans to tighten up here yet but I am kind of glad I'm off work this week and can hunker in my bunker.

Interestingly this appears on the same day Burnham and the Manchester MPs all had a good moan about the measures being increased. Liverpool Council has seemingly signed off on them.

Measures to be reviewed every month but may last six months.

I think that's the first bit of honesty we've seen about how long this may end up taking tbh.
