This question might have already been answered on here but.. has Nicola/Scottish Government advised what the situation needs to be like before this mandatory rule on face masks is dropped? Will it be a few weeks/months/years? Or just normal for every day life for the foreseeable?

Face coverings will not be made mandatory in shops, Michael Gove said – two days after Boris Johnson hinted that England could copy Scotland by introducing the rule.

Meanwhile, Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon said she would be prepared to impose a border quarantine with England to prevent the spread of the virus if necessary, though there were no "immediate plans" to do so.
It was in one of the newspapers on Saturday, Nicola Sturgeon said that they'll be here for the "foreseeable feature".

I wouldn't be surprised if masks are in place until next year given they don't know how the virus will flare up during the colder months and the possibility of a second wave. Hopefully not though!

With it being in law rather than advised it will now remain so until repealed.

So who knows when it will be removed but I agree I think it is for the longer term.

How many people here have actually been wearing masks at all?
I haven't worn one yet.. I live in England, don't use public transport, and in supermarkets people wearing them are still in the minority.

Just 6 new cases in Scotland is a pleasing development. As is the news that 7 of the 19 from yesterday came from asymptomatic cases in a single care home. Hopefully, they remain asymptomatic, but it is a good indication that Test & Protect is working (unless I've missed the introduction of routine testing of residents).

0 new deaths for the 5th day in a row. Be very interesting to see what the figure is tomorrow as it would be absolutely fantastic if this was still 0.

So of the new cases in Glasgow yesterday, 7 were asymptomatic in a care home?

Face coverings to be compulsory in shops in England from 24th July

Wearing a face covering in shops and supermarkets in England is to become mandatory from 24 July.

Those who fail to comply with the new rules will face a fine of up to £100, the government is to announce.

The move will bring England into line with Scotland and other major European nations like Spain, Italy and Germany.

Since mid-May, the public have been advised to wear coverings in enclosed public spaces, where they may encounter people they would not usually meet.

It has been compulsory on public transport since 15 June.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is expected to set out the new guidance on face coverings on Tuesday.

I'm not really understanding the face mask rule. You need to wear one in shops but not in pubs? And why are they only now being made mandatory in shops, shouldn't this have been made a rule when the virus was at its peak?

Ridiculous.. For months they've been barking on about how face masks are ineffective. Months.

Supermarkets have stayed open throughout, with other "non-essential" shops opening a few weeks ago, and only now they want to make face masks mandatory? I can only guess that they're not so ineffective afterall then.. ?

Working at a supermarket as a temporary worker (both to lend a hand, and to gain a useful extra income), this certainly makes me question whether to continue doing so..
