Only taken Haaland 3 minutes to score. His first touch and the ball is in the Burnley net.
Comfortable for City without having to get out of second gear due to Haaland's goals.

They will be worried with De Bruyne getting injured in his first match back from injury after spending the summer recovering. He's probably the still the biggest influence on that team judging by the two halves.

Newcastle 5 Aston Villa 1

What were Villa doing? Absolutely suicidal defending. Newcastle are good going forward but they couldn't have hoped for a more obliging opponent

Impressive performance by Newcastle. They are powerfull no doubt in that. But the team which impressed me the most last year is Brighton and it seems that they will continue where they stop. Really respect the way they play.

In terms of their actual league position Spurs are definitely in for a rough season but early signs are the matches will be very entertaining to watch

Decent game. Brentford probably had the better chances to score but a draw is a fair result.

I think Spurs need a striker, Richarlison won't score the goals require and Son is a shadow of the player that shared the golden boot with Salah a few years ago.

Somehow Boehly has spent £800m and made the Chelsea side on paper (and on the pitch) look worse than before he joined????

Maybe Pochettino can work some magic but I don't see them challenging for the title any time soon.

In order, who will finish in the top… five* and qualify for the Champions League?

*based on UEFA coefficients, the Premier League should have five spots in the new-look 2024-25 Champions League.

1. Manchester City
2. Arsenal
3. Manchester United
4. Chelsea
5. Liverpool
1. Arsenal
2. Man City
3. Liverpool

5. Newcastle

Two poor teams on first showing of the season. Chelsea are a work in progress so will improve. Liverpool need a defensive midfielder and some decent defenders - if they got an offer for Alexander Arnold they should snap the hand of the team making it...he is a liability in defence. Also, Liverpool are very short on squad depth. Why spend £100m+ on Caicedo when they need to address numerous areas of the team.

Just from watching Match of the Day yesterday, the Everton-Fulham game was an eye-opener. The quality of the finishing was so poor. It was diabolical. Similar story in the Sheffield United and Palace game. Similar-ish in the Bournemouth game against West Ham, although I think Solanke will do well for them this season.

If you discount City and Haaland, there is such a lack of striking prowess. I can see Isak doing well for Newcastle this season. Rashford is another who should have a good season. Once you look beyond that, it's all of these attacking midfielders/inverted winners/number 10s who I think will be popping up with the goals. I'd struggle to name you 5 quality Premier League strikers right now.

It's something that's really bugging me at the moment. Where have all of the strikers gone?!
