Wolverhampton Wanderers are working on a deal to appoint Vitor Pereira as their new head coach following the departure of Gary O'Neil.

The Premier League club are ready to pay the release clause in the 56-year-old's contract with Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.

Personal terms are not expected to be a problem, given Pereira is thought to be keen on a move to Molineux and is excited by the quality of the squad.

The Portuguese and his backroom staff are vastly experienced having operated together in multiple countries and secured league titles at Porto, Olympiacos and Shanghai SIPG.

Pereira has built a strong reputation for his ability to handle big names and improve players, while he speaks multiple languages including very strong English.

Among the other factors thought to have led Pereira to being targeted are the discipline and emotional understanding he is said to apply to his work, both of which are particularly important in light of Wolves' recent troubles.

Heading towards the halfway stage of the season Liverpool have moved seven points clear at the top of the league and they have a game in hand.

Arsenal can reduced the lead to 6 points with a win today.

Been really impressed with Liverpool this season both in the league and Europe.

And what a first half of the season for Notts Forest! They are currently in the top 4.

Man City register a 2-0 win at Leicester to finally win a game.

Liverpool are in cruise control, leading West Ham 3-0 at half-time. Liverpool looks a mile ahead of the rest of the league.

I didn't have Ipswich beating Chelsea. Fair play to them.

Man United lost again, this time Newcastle recorded a 2-0 win at Old Trafford. United end the year in 14th place, seven points above the relegation zone.

This has been a very enjoyable festive season of football so far results wise. Great fun.

Man City are way closer than I'd expect though, 6pts off 2nd place when it seems like they've not been able to win in ages.

It is Liverpool's title to lose now.

Everton have sacked Sean Dyche after almost 2 years of service to the club, with Jose Mourinho being linked as the heavy favourite for the job 👀🔵

Sean Dyche had a 31% win rate in all competitions at Everton.

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman will take charge of the club's FA Cup clash against Peterborough tonight.

I still think Dyche is a good manager and has done a fine job with a terrible squad. They might not be scoring but their defence has been great. I suspect the new manager will just have a weaker defence and minimal improvement up front, which will probably lead to a net negative.

According to social media, The Friedkin Group want David Moyes to replace Dyche.
