Nice to see England racking up the goals at last. James has been a revelation to the team and what a volley - best player in the group stages for me.

After saying last week that the USA look still looked the best team after their opening game, they have looked very beatable since. They just scrapped into the knockout stages, thanks to a post, after a 0-0 draw with Portugal.

A HUGE upset as Brazil crash out in the Group Stages whilst Jamaica qualify for the Round of 16.

Heartbreak for Brazil legend Marta, who ends her final World Cup without a goal and misses out on becoming the first player to score at six World Cup Finals

Truly the end of an era 🇧🇷

The Women's World Cup group stage is over — but not without one last shock.

Germany fail to make it to the knockouts for the first time in their history — debutants Morocco advance to the last 16.

The Germans drew 1-1 with South Korea while Morocco beat Colombia 1-0 (a result that saw both teams progress)

The 2nd, 7th, 8th, 14th and 16th ranked teams are already out. Spain (6th) and Norway (12th) finished 2nd in their groups.

Not so bad for England? France the best team in their bracket, but they wont face them before the semi final.

The US has a tough route. Sweden followed by Norway/Japan and then possibly Netherlands or Spain.

Spain hammer Switzerland 5-1. A really good performance from Spain and Bonmati is a lovely player. Batlle reminding us how much we'll miss her. After the shock of Japan, the best kind of reaction.

Switzerland were poor. They're always useless in attack but their defending looked so weak today. Stage fright maybe?

And a good win for Japan, a nice 3-1. Norway made a game of it, but Japan are a better team.

Sweden dump the US out after a penalty shootout.

To be fair to the Americans, this was probably their best performance of the entire tournament but for the Swedish goalkeeper they would have easily won this 2-0 or 3-0 but such is football. On the balance of play the entire tournament, the US deserve to be out.

Not a shock at all that they lost today even though USA was the better team in this game.

The world has caught up to the US women's team. They need to take the next step or will otherwise begin to fall behind once women's pro football in Europe really kicks in big time.

Japan is my favorite team to watch in this World Cup but I fear they might be vulnerable to a big physical team parking the bus and taking them out on set pieces.

Lauren James sent off for England! For all her impressive play at this tournament, if will most likely be remembered for an ill-tempered stamp.

England have been shown to be quite an average team, they will do well to scrape through on penalties here.

Some of the comments about James on social media are horrible, but then again why am I surprised?

Luckily for England, Nigeria are really bad at penalties! They win the shootout 4-2. The Lionesses live to fight another day.

England lucky to progress. Nigeria were much the better team.

Australia are through to the quarter finals too. Fairly comfortable 2-0 victory over Denmark. The Aussie will be delighted that Sam Kerr managed some game time after missing the group matches.
