Lewis to break 100+ wins, go clear with all-time championship wins and ride off into the sunset you'd imagine is the thinking here, Russell then to replace him and who knows what the story with Bottas will be.

Hamilton and Mercedes for 2021 was never in any real doubt, was it? ?

..also as has been alluded to, I suspect this not only gives him an "easy out" but Mercedes an option to cut their spending on driver contracts. Unless they go after Verstappen, but I'd think it likely that Verstappen will need Mercedes more than the other way around.

Totally agree with this. Hamilton wants everyone to love him. Verstappen doesn't give a shit about that.

Must surely all be strong indicators Mercedes are seriously looking at pulling back from being a manufacturer team in F1?

Bicycle accident for Fernando Alonso. The Spanish Alpine Renault driver was hit by a car while training by bike on the Swiss roads near Lugano. The confirmation came in the evening from the Alpine team, which hired the Spaniard for the 2021 World Cup. Immediately rescued and admitted to a hospital in the area, the first radiographic examinations would have shown a fracture to the jaw and damage to the teeth. Renault really don't have much luck with their drivers and activities outside of the sport..

I wonder if they'll look at asking their drivers to cut back and such activities.. Kinda takes away from their "young" image with Alpine though.. ?
