Various social media posts and articles have circulated, suggesting that a physical copy of the much-anticipated game would be available by the end of this year. However, these claims have been debunked.

It appears that fans hoping for a physical version of the game to be released after its digital launch may be in for disappointment. According to the latest information, there are "no plans for a post-launch physical release, not at launch, and not months later."

When Rockstar Support referred to a "physical copy," they were actually talking about the version that will be available in a box containing just a download code, rather than a traditional disc.

The term "physical version" has raised eyebrows among fans, as many feel it is misleading if there's no actual disc involved. So, if you're looking to play GTA 6, be prepared to download it instead.

Additionally, there have been reports from a Polish website claiming that a disc version would be released in December, but this has also been proven incorrect.

GTA 6 has now been fully revealed by Rockstar Games after today's Extended Look on Netflix.

The 25-minute video features a compilation of clips of GTA 6's two main protagonists carrying out a series of heists at convenience stores, jewellery stores and diners as they try to escape the cops. The opening sequence shows the partners in mayhem, Jason Duval and Lucia Camino, arriving at an apartment as part of what appears to be a drug deal before getting involved in a shootout with police.

The preview also introduces viewers to the fictional state of Leonida, which is based on Florida, as Jason and Lucia drive around, hit the bars and get caught in scuffles, among other adventures.

The extended look was impressive. I was hoping to see a little more of the game in free roam and not just the story missions.

Still not sure whether to pre-order or not.

Following the release of GTA VI: An Extended Look, even more details about the game have emerged.

Notably, IGN has also published an extensive list of GTA VI details after being invited to Rockstar North to see a demonstration of the game and speak with co-studio head Rob Nelson.

And there's quite a lot to unpack. Here are some of the more interesting details they've shared:
  • You can seamlessly switch between Jason and Lucia. When they're together, you can also control them as a pair and quickly switch between the two.
  • You can influence whether Jason and Lucia's relationship develops into a romance through decisions made during main missions and by spending time together outside of them.
  • Romance is entirely optional.
  • The game features a Criminal Profile system that reflects your behaviour and proficiency as a criminal.
  • The police and wanted systems have been significantly expanded. Witnesses can report crimes, while law enforcement can remember your appearance, clothing, and vehicle even after you've escaped the immediate pursuit. Wearing a mask and switching vehicles can help you avoid identification.
  • The six-star wanted level is back.
  • Vehicles need to be refuelled from time to time, while electric cars can be recharged.
  • Stealing cars is more involved than before, with more valuable vehicles being harder to break into.
  • The in-game phone is now a fully interactive 3D object rather than a simple 2D interface. It includes apps for messaging, transportation, fitness, payments, and social media.
  • Social media plays a much bigger role in the world. You can see what NPCs are posting, encounter people you've seen online, and watch events unfold through social feeds.
  • The game features a Focus ability that slows down time and can highlight weak points on enemies and vehicles.
  • There is no traditional auto-aim; the game instead uses manual aiming with aim assist.
  • Combat is more focused on using cover, with Jason and Lucia able to duck behind objects, vault over obstacles, and reposition themselves during firefights.
  • There are plenty of side activities, including basketball, working out at the gym, shooting ranges, fishing, minigolf, skydiving, and visiting a zoo.
  • Fitness isn't purely cosmetic. Jason and Lucia's physical condition can affect their health and stamina, while exercising and visiting gyms can improve their fitness.
  • You can pet dogs and cats.
  • The game features RDR2-style interactions with NPCs, including options to greet, threaten, and rob people.
  • Certain missions offer multiple approaches and escape routes, giving players more freedom in how they handle different situations.
  • The main story can reportedly take up to 80 hours to complete, with some decisions and optional objectives carrying narrative consequences. The story is also said to have been designed with multiple playthroughs in mind.
  • The game reportedly features more than 600,000 animations.
  • Its map is reportedly twice the size of Grand Theft Auto V's and three times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2's.
  • The game reportedly runs at 30 FPS on the base PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no details currently available about potential PS5 Pro enhancements.
  • First-person mode is not available.
  • Photo Mode will be included.

Game looks great. My only two questions are:

1. Is modern day Miami and its parody on the type of characters that reside there interesting enough compared to 80s Miami? I think the answer is probably, with the rural areas involved too, but we'll see.

2. Are these main characters interesting and engrossing enough? I don't get 'willing to commit a lot of murder whilst doing crazy shit' vibes from them. With other GTAs, you could see that they had a villainous side and play up to that.

The unhinged factor is gone from GTA. This one will probably be on the "boring" side compared to V.

Rockstar Games has recently announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not feature microtransactions or generative AI at its launch, scheduled for November 19, 2026. This news came during a discussion with Kinda Funny Games, where the developers aimed to clarify some of the gaming community's concerns.

During a preview event, Kinda Funny's Andy Cortez directly asked Rockstar about the possibility of in-game purchases using real money. The answer was a clear "no," indicating that players will not face any monetization strategies that allow for such transactions. This is a relief for many fans who have been eagerly awaiting the next installment in the beloved franchise, especially after a long 13-year wait.

Additionally, Greg Miller from Kinda Funny inquired about the use of generative AI in the game, to which Rockstar responded that there would be "no AI" incorporated into GTA 6. This decision is particularly noteworthy, as generative AI has been a contentious topic in the gaming industry, often leading to mixed reactions from players.

While the absence of microtransactions and generative AI is certainly good news, it's important to note that Rockstar will be offering an Ultimate Edition of the game for £89.99/$99.99. This edition, which is £20/$20 more than the standard version, will include exclusive content such as cosmetic packs, vehicles, and access to specific shops like the Electric Fang tattoo parlor and Stock 305 clothing store. Players who purchase the standard edition will have the option to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition separately.

The Ultimate Edition bonuses will be integrated throughout the game's narrative, enhancing the experience for those who choose this option. However, for players who prefer to stick with the standard edition, it appears that the core gameplay will remain free from additional monetization tactics.
