The post raises relevant concerns about jury duty and expenses but lacks some clarity and detail about the specific laws regarding employer compensation.

I've got a letter this morning, to say I have to attend the crown court in December. It says, it can take upto 10 days. Completed my online notice that I'm attending.

I'm worried about informing work, are they by law going to pay me for the time I need off. If not, it says I can claim expenses of upto £65 a day.

Has anyone ever tried claiming the expenses and if so, how long did you wait before being reimbursed?

I'm certain you get reimbursed the day you go to court.

Probably after proceedings.

Make sure you keep all your receipts for proof and you may need time sheets (contract) from your employer for details of work hours you've missed.

Work have to let you do it. They aren't obliged to give you full pay though.

When I did jury duty a few years ago, I had to advise the court on the first day of my hourly pay rate for expenses, which was when all the admin stuff was done before we all started legal stuff, about a week after the end of it all I received a cheque in the post from the court with full amount.

Could be a different system now though.
