There's nothing to negotiate if Ukraine and Europe aren't at the table.
Exactly but Europe has stayed quiet all along, they had a chance to voice that Trump isn't the one who decides the lines.

I clearly understand the strength of America but it seems that everyone is shit scared to tell Trump to back off.

Once again, it looks like Ukraine and Ukrainians will be the ones to suffer.

Europe really needs to grow some balls.

America, or Donald Trump, should not be allowed to bully the rest of the world.

As depressing as the news was yesterday, Ukraine do NOT have to accept any proposals if they do not feel it is right for them.

They are never getting Crimea back so that's gone (unpalatable though it is), but they don't have to accept the loss of the four regions the Russians partly occupy.

If joining NATO is "off the table", then a demilitarised zone with a UN/NATO peacekeeping force is an absolute must-have.

What I do fear, is that if Zelenskyy doesn't pander to Trump, Trump will lift sanctions on his old pal allowing the Russian economy to recover and thus dig Putin out of a hole. Would he do that and risk the wrath of his European "allies"? Sadly, I think he would.

But the fact is, Ukraine cannot be forced by Trump into a deal that screws them and rewards Putin. And, if NATO is genuine in its steadfast support of Ukraine, then Trump can just do one.

Having the Americans on side is obviously preferable, of course it is, but it is not imperative.

In the end it was and still is up to Europe. Russia poses a direct threat to the various countries. It does not do that to the US.

Do the people of Europe care enough to give up certain goodies in order to fund and arm Ukraine? They've had three years to really step up and have done so at best half-heartedly. So I'd say no.

Well in these uncertain times the EU seems solid and their support for Ukraine unwavering.

"The EU's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said that if a deal was made without Ukraine, "the Ukrainians will resist and we will support them". Kallas accused Washington of "appeasement" towards Russia, insisting that no deal "behind our backs" could work.

"You need the Europeans, you need the Ukrainians," she said. "If Ukraine decides to resist, Europe will back its principles. Yes, we are 20% less if the US decides to withdraw, but still, Ukraine will defend the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity. And we are there together."

By the looks of things, they don't have a clue or plan. Everyone said this US government would be a liability and a liability is what they are proving to be!

To be honest, they should have walked out on Vance. It is time they just stopped asking them to attend things.

The lack of self awareness is astonishing.

I think he's trying to project the arrogance of his master by dictating terms before having even the basic understanding of what the conflict is about. The more he speaks, I really think that's it, they aren't clever enough for a devious master hustle with Putin. It hasn't even occurred to them that there are other major stakeholders in this, they just expect everyone to shrink when they flex. They have no plan to end this war.

The US and Russia are to meet in Saudi Arabia for peace talks. But Ukraine say they are not invited.

The sheer hubris of the States is staggering. "We'll discuss it and then tell you what we've agreed even though it's not our national". Mind, suppose I shouldn't be surprised coming for a President that openly advocates ethnic cleansing in Gaza.

Unbelievably, and it is a terrible thing to want but, I find myself wishing that Trump dies before Putin and Lavrov.

I hope more than anything that Europe grows a pair and acts in a unified block to f*ck the US off both over this and Trump's impending tariffs.

Keir Starmer says the UK is "ready and willing" to put troops on the ground in Ukraine to help guarantee its security as part of a peace deal.
