The White House is considering inviting Volodymyr Zelenskyy to a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, sources say.

It is "absolutely" possible, a senior administration official told our US partner network NBC News.

"Everyone is very hopeful that would happen."

Another official briefed on internal conversations said: "It's being discussed."

If Zelenskyy were to travel to Alaska, it is not clear if he and Putin would ever be in the same room, one source said.

Asked whether the US had officially invited Zelenskyy to Alaska, a senior White House official said: "The President remains open to a trilateral summit with both leaders. Right now, the White House is focusing on planning the bilateral meeting requested by President Putin."

We're basically back to where we were a few months ago. The fears that Trump and Putin make an agreement without any input from Ukraine or Europe. Nothing will come from this meeting, there will be no agreement or ceasefire.

The worrying part is what happens afterwards, will Trump rage at Zelenskyy, Ukraine and Europe for not giving in to Russian demands and ultimately pull US support again?

Looks like Donald has flipped again ahead of his meeting with Putin.

This doesn't bode well for Ukraine or any peace negotiations.

I can see Putin running rings around Trump in Alaska and nothing being agreed to by Ukraine or Europe.

Un-ducking-believable.
He just says anything. I actually think he has some mental illness.

He said today, twice during his news conference, that he was meeting with Putin in Russia on Friday.

His ranting and raving this evening seems especially detached, even for him!

I wonder what this meeting today between Trump and Putin will result in.

I'm not optimistic that anything good for Ukraine will be revealed

The 1 on 1 meeting between Trump and Putin has now become a 3 on 3 with Rubio and Witkoff joining Trump. No word on the other two Russians, maybe Lavrov?

Edit

The Russian president will be joined by his foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and aide Yuri Ushakov.

So While Putin is on his way to Alaska to do a "deal" with Trump, he's bombing the shit out of Ukraine. One of Putin's cabinet said earlier on Sky News, that Russia are going to offer NOTHING to Ukraine. This meeting is already an absolute shambles ffs.
