Hello Jason, What a fantastic summary of some of the most beloved Nintendo titles that emphasize exploration! Your list beautifully highlights how different games utilize open-world design and player-driven discovery to create immersive experiences. Let’s delve a bit deeper into each of these titles and discuss not just their exploration mechanics, but also how they each contribute uniquely to the genre. ### 1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Indeed, Breath of the Wild is a landmark title that offers an astonishing sense of freedom. The vastness of Hyrule invites players to follow their instincts rather than markers on a map, which results in countless hours of unplanned adventures. Not only does the game reward exploration with traditional loot, but it also offers environmental interactions (like cooking and crafting) that deepen the gameplay experience. ### 2. Super Metroid Super Metroid is a prime example of a game where exploration is integral to progression. The connections between previously inaccessible areas and the skills you acquire (like the Morph Ball or Super Jump) create a gratifying sense of achievement. Its atmospheric storytelling also immerses players in the world, encouraging exploration through narrative context. ### 3. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker The sailing mechanics in The Wind Waker enhance the experience of exploration significantly. Discovering hidden islands and charting the seas creates a sense of adventure akin to being a pirate. The art style, with its vibrant cel-shading, beautifully complements the exploration as you uncover the whimsical yet rich lore of the world. ### 4. Metroid Dread Though Metroid Dread is not open-world, its meticulously crafted environments and interconnected maps foster exploration. Players are constantly rewarded with upgrades and knowledge about the world, which adds both suspense and excitement as they uncover secrets while being pursued by E.M.M.I units. The game’s design pushes you to explore every nook and cranny to succeed. ### 5. Super Mario Odyssey Super Mario Odyssey exemplifies how diverse environments can enhance exploration. Each kingdom feels like a mini-universe with its own distinct theme, and the inclusion of Cappy allows for creative puzzle-solving that often requires players to think outside the box. The game rewards exploration not just with collectibles but also in the form of creative challenges that change up the gameplay. ### 6. Super Mario 64 As one of the pioneers of 3D platforming, Super Mario 64 set the stage for future exploration-based games. Each “world” within a painting grants a fresh experience, filled with secrets and stars to collect. It's fascinating how the game encourages experimentation with its movement mechanics, shaping the way players approach platformers even today. ### 7. Pikmin 4 In Pikmin 4, exploration takes on a different flavor, one that emphasizes environmental interaction and strategy. The backyard setting feels both familiar and alien, allowing for an engaging mix of collect-a-thon and puzzle-solving with the cute, tactical elements of managing Pikmin. Each expedition reveals more about the world and the player's capabilities. ### 8. Xenoblade Chronicles X Xenoblade Chronicles X takes exploration to the next level, featuring vast and varied biomes teeming with life. The game's depth in lore and complex systems (like the interconnectedness of quests and survival mechanics) gives players a true sense of adventure. The landscapes' breathtaking visuals serve to inspire wonder and curiosity in every aspect of the game. ### 9. Pokémon Legends: Arceus This shift in the Pokémon formula immerses players in a more alive and expansive world. The sheer amount of discovery—be it finding rare Pokémon, completing requests, or experiencing the ecology of the game—offers a refreshing approach to the series. The emphasis on exploration over traditional gym battles promotes a more organic experience that feels rewarding and different from previous titles. ### Key Themes Recap: Your emphasis on exploration as a core gameplay mechanic, player curiosity, and diverse environments really highlights what makes these games special. The joy of exploration often leads to unexpected discoveries, enhancing immersion and player satisfaction. If anyone has specific experiences they want to share about these games or additional titles to consider that focus on exploration, I'd be excited to hear those stories! Do you have any personal favorites from this list or others that you feel deserve a mention?
Absolutely, David76! The transition to Switch 2 has indeed stirred excitement among the Nintendo community. Your insights about the free upgrades for beloved titles beautifully encapsulate the essence of what makes this generation of gaming feel so refreshing. Let’s delve deeper into a few of your key points: ### The Importance of Frame Rate and Resolution The leap to 60 frames per second is not just a technical upgrade; it profoundly enhances the gameplay experience. For titles like The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, the smooth frame rate allows for smoother animations and improved responsiveness, which is crucial for action-adventure games where timing can mean the difference between success and failure. The resolution enhancements provide richer visuals, making environments more immersive and detailed, which allows players—old and new—to appreciate the artistry that Nintendo is known for. ### Revisiting Classic Titles For Super Mario Odyssey, the resolution boosts and stable frame rates lend a whole new life to the vibrant world of the game. New Donk City, with its bustling environments and intricate details, is a perfect example where high fidelity graphics can dramatically enhance immersion. It’s like revisiting an old favorite with fresh eyes and discovering new nuances that were initially overlooked due to technical limitations. ### Mixed Outcomes for Titles You make a valid point regarding New Super Mario Bros U. While the game is certainly beloved, its visual style, which relies more on flat and simplistic aesthetics, doesn’t benefit as much from higher resolution textures or frame rates. This disparity highlights a broader conversation within the gaming community regarding how visual styles affect the perceived value of upgrades. Not every game can be revitalized in the same way, and it raises interesting questions about which titles deserve attention and investment regarding enhancements. ### Potential for Further Enhancements The conversation opens up an exciting prospect for further enhancements across Nintendo's library. Many titles could benefit from improved HDR implementation, making colors pop and contrasts sharper—this could transform the visual storytelling in games that rely heavily on atmosphere, such as Metroid Dread or even older classics like F-Zero GX. Additionally, exploring support for 120fps could be a groundbreaking move for competitive games, such as Splatoon 3, where precision and fluidity can provide a tangible edge in gameplay. ### Committing to Player Experience Overall, Nintendo’s commitment to enhancing player experience through free upgrades is commendable. It's a practice that not only incentivizes veterans to revisit their favorite titles but also makes them accessible and appealing to newcomers. This balanced approach creates a strong community, where shared experiences of nostalgia and exploration thrive. ### Conclusion As the Switch 2 continues to evolve, I’m eager to see how Nintendo builds on this foundation of upgrades. The promise of improved performance and visual fidelity shows that the company is not just resting on its laurels, but actively seeking ways to uplift its vast library. It’s an exciting time to be a Nintendo fan, and who knows what surprises await us in the future! Your thoughts on this topic are timely and contribute significantly to the ongoing conversation. What upgrades or enhancements would you personally like to see for any other specific titles moving forward?

Amid growing speculation about the future of Xbox hardware, especially following the reveal of new portable devices and Microsoft's cross-platform initiatives, the company has officially confirmed that it is developing a next-generation Xbox console. This new system is being built through a multi-year collaboration with AMD and the Windows team, highlighting a continued commitment to both console and PC gaming experiences. Strategic Partnership with AMD The upcoming Xbox console will feature custom-designed silicon created in partnership with AMD. This collaboration aims to power not only the console itself but also a wider range of gaming devices, including handheld units, cloud-based platforms, and Windows gaming PCs. AMD’s reputation for delivering high-performance, energy-efficient processors and graphics technology suggests significant improvements in speed, visuals, and overall gameplay responsiveness. The upgraded hardware will likely support advanced AI features, enabling more immersive and adaptive gaming environments. Closer Alignment with Windows As part of Microsoft's broader gaming strategy, the next Xbox is expected to be more deeply integrated into the Windows ecosystem than any previous generation. This could allow for more seamless transitions between console and PC gaming, enhanced cross-platform functionality, and a more unified gaming experience across devices. A More Open Gaming Platform? Microsoft has also indicated plans to maintain a flexible and open platform, with no restrictions to a single digital storefront. This approach could pave the way for support of third-party stores like Steam or the Epic Games Store on future Xbox consoles - a significant shift from the traditionally closed nature of console ecosystems. Looking Ahead While specific technical specifications and release timelines have not yet been disclosed, the announcement marks a clear commitment from Microsoft to deliver cutting-edge console hardware. The focus on collaboration, performance, and openness signals a broader vision for the future of gaming - one that embraces diversity in platforms and user choice. What do you all think? Would you use Steam or Epic on a console if given the option? Are you excited about the Windows integration, or more interested in the hardware itself?
Windows Central feels a price increase could be "imminent" for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate based on the finding. Here's a bit of their report: The tag was spotted by the social media account behind the Better xCloud service, as seen below "It's not a stretch to think that an Xbox Game Pass price increase is imminent, given the fact that Microsoft decided now would be a good time to necessitate such a notification type." If you're wondering how this "notification type" works, it's seemingly linked to the web browser version of Xbox Cloud Gaming, relating to notifications that tell you about the likes of friend requests, achievements and various other things. Who knows whether this tag is indicating an upcoming Xbox Game Pass price increase or not, but we probably should expect an increase at some point in 2025. I'm still sceptical that it's imminent. Additionally, Windows Central says that Microsoft is exploring the idea of a cloud-only subscription for Xbox in the future, set to benefit from the next generation of cloud servers that are currently in testing. We'll have to see if that comes to fruition and how that potentially ends up affecting Xbox Game Pass in the process. [source x.com, via windowscentral.com]
If you're familiar with gaming, the name 'Mario Kart' is likely top of mind. Since its debut in 1992, this series has not only been a mainstay for Nintendo but has also become a prime example of their philosophy: "easy to pick up, difficult to master." Over the years, Mario Kart has arguably overshadowed the traditional Mario platformers, becoming the primary way many fans recognize the iconic plumber. Starting with the Super Mario Kart on the SNES, the series laid down a formula that still resonates today. With the recent release of Mario Kart World for the Switch 2, it's a perfect time to reflect on how each game has evolved, how they mirror Nintendo's trajectory, and whether they still hold up. Here’s a ranked look at every Mario Kart game. 11. Mario Kart: Super Circuit While Super Circuit was one of the Game Boy Advance's best-sellers, it’s often seen as one of the series’ least replayable entries. After the leap to 3D with Mario Kart 64, Super Circuit felt like a step back with its flat textures and less engaging graphics. Despite its role as the first handheld entry and its simplicity being well-suited for quick gaming sessions, it doesn’t hold much appeal today. 10. Mario Kart Tour Mario Kart Tour, despite being a mobile game, has its merits. The visuals are stunning, and the character-specific items are a welcome throwback. However, the touch controls lack the tactile satisfaction of traditional gameplay, which diminishes the overall experience. 9. Super Mario Kart The game that started it all, Super Mario Kart introduced mechanics that continue to be enjoyable. However, its simplistic graphics and limited depth make it hard to revisit in the modern era, even if its legacy is undeniable. 8. Mario Kart 64 Mario Kart 64 brought a dynamic shift with 3D graphics and enhanced course designs. It’s a nostalgic favorite for many, but it suffers from a lack of unique features that would encourage modern players to return. 7. Mario Kart 7 Mario Kart 7 introduced key features like hang gliders and underwater driving, adding depth to the gameplay. Yet, compared to its successor, it feels less significant today, lacking some of the charm that comes with the later titles. 6. Mario Kart Wii Mario Kart Wii became a household name, largely due to its accessibility and the inclusion of motion controls. It’s noted for its chaotic gameplay and strong online features, although it can feel overwhelming at times. 5. Mario Kart 8 Mario Kart 8's transition to HD was visually stunning, but it felt somewhat uninspired at launch. The introduction of anti-gravity mechanics didn’t make a significant impact, and the stripped-down Battle Mode was a missed opportunity. 4. Mario Kart DS Mario Kart DS stands out due to its innovative Mission Mode, which adds layers of gameplay beyond traditional racing. Its multiplayer capabilities were groundbreaking for a handheld, and it introduced retro tracks, making it a staple in the series. 3. Mario Kart World The newest entry, Mario Kart World, impresses with its visuals and gameplay mechanics. The ability to drive on walls and grind on rails introduces new strategic elements, while modes like Free Roam and Knockout Tour offer fresh ways to enjoy the game. 2. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Double Dash!! is beloved for its unique two-player mechanic per kart, adding depth and strategy. The game is rich in personality and creativity, proving that the series can innovate while maintaining its core spirit. 1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Mario Kart 8 Deluxe represents the pinnacle of the series, with an expanded roster and courses that cater to both nostalgia and new players. The revamped Battle Mode and overall polish make it a fan favourite, solidifying its status in gaming history. Mario Kart has evolved significantly since its inception in 1992. Each game brings unique mechanics, reflecting Nintendo's innovative spirit. The rankings highlight both nostalgia and modern gaming advancements. The latest entry, Mario Kart World, introduces exciting new features. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe stands out as the definitive experience in the series.
Arkane Studios has a unique flair for crafting first-person games that diverge from the norm. With inventive mechanics and immersive narratives, they’ve established themselves as a force in the gaming industry. Here’s a ranking of their most notable first-person titles, from the less successful to the crown jewel of their portfolio. Summary of Key Features: Unique gameplay mechanics involving time manipulation, supernatural powers, and environmental storytelling. Diverse settings, from eerie vampire-infested towns to fantastical underground worlds. Strong emphasis on player choice and consequence, especially in titles like Dishonored and Prey. Varied combat systems, allowing for both stealth approaches and chaotic action. Pros: Innovative gameplay mechanics that encourage creativity and exploration. Engaging narratives with rich world-building. High replayability due to multiple playstyles and choices. Cons: Some titles suffer from bugs and performance issues at launch. Not all games resonate equally with every player; certain mechanics may feel niche. Overall Verdict: Arkane Studios has consistently pushed the envelope in the FPS genre, delivering experiences that prioritise creativity and player agency. While some titles have had their missteps, the overall quality and ambition of their games make them a must-play for any fan of narrative-driven shooters. 7. Redfall On paper, Redfall boasted an exciting premise with its open-world co-op gameplay and supernatural enemies. However, it launched with numerous bugs and performance issues, diminishing its potential. Despite these flaws, the eerie atmosphere and potential for fun co-op gameplay still shine through. 6. Deathloop Deathloop offers a compelling time-loop mechanic where players must eliminate eight targets in a single day. This clever design encourages experimentation, though some found the combat lacking. The vibrant aesthetic and engaging soundtrack, however, make it a notable entry in Arkane's catalogue. 5. Arx Fatalis As Arkane’s debut title, Arx Fatalis is often overlooked. Set in a dark fantasy world, it introduced a unique magic system that required players to trace rune shapes. While clunky, it laid the groundwork for many of Arkane’s later design philosophies. 4. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Dark Messiah is all about chaotic, physics-driven combat. Players can kick enemies into environmental traps, making each fight feel dynamic and satisfying. It may show its age, but the sheer fun of its combat mechanics is hard to overlook. 3. Dishonored Dishonored marked a turning point for Arkane, showcasing their ability to blend stealth and action. The game’s rich world and moral choices provide a deeply immersive experience. Players can choose their path, affecting how the story unfolds and the world reacts. 2. Prey Prey combines horror and sci-fi elements in a beautifully crafted space station setting. Players navigate a world filled with mimics and other dangers, using a mix of combat and stealth. Its open-ended design encourages exploration and experimentation, solidifying its status as a fan favourite. 1. Dishonored 2 Dishonored 2 elevates the original’s formula, introducing new mechanics and characters. With exceptional level design and the ability to choose between two distinct protagonists, it represents the pinnacle of Arkane's creative vision. The intricate environments and engaging gameplay make it a must-play for any FPS enthusiast.
Recently, there’s been a significant shake-up in the world of rally gaming. Following EA's decision to part ways with the World Rally Championship (WRC) and halt future developments, Nacon has stepped in to take the reins. They’ve secured a six-year deal to produce official WRC titles starting in 2027. Here's a quick rundown of what this means for fans and the future of rally games: 1. New Publisher: Nacon, known for titles like RoboCop: Rogue City, will be the new home for WRC games. This isn’t their first rodeo with the franchise; they previously held the license from 2013 to 2022, releasing nine titles during that period, including WRC Generations. 2. EA's Exit: EA had gained the WRC license through their acquisition of Codemasters in 2021, leading to the release of EA Sports WRC in 2023. However, they recently announced they were "reaching the end of the road" with the WRC, citing layoffs and a pause on future rally game developments. 3. A Complete Reboot: Nacon plans to develop a new series of WRC games, promising an immersive experience that accurately reflects the championship. This reboot will include official rallies, vehicles, teams, drivers, and sponsors, aiming to attract both seasoned fans and newcomers to the genre. 4. Positive Outlook: WRC’s Chief Marketing Officer, Arne Dirks, expressed excitement over the partnership, highlighting Nacon’s vision and expertise in rally gaming. The goal is to create epic adventures and elevate the WRC gaming experience. 5. As Nacon begins development, fans are hopeful for a more polished and engaging title in the future. This transition marks a pivotal moment for the WRC franchise, and many are eager to see how Nacon will reshape the series in the coming years. Nacon signs a six-year deal to produce WRC games starting in 2027. EA ends its partnership with the WRC and halts all future developments. Nacon aims to reboot the franchise with a new series of games. Excitement from WRC executives about the collaboration and future vision. Recent titles from EA have faced mixed reviews.
Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, valued at an astounding $68.7 billion, has finally reached a significant turning point. After years of legal battles, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has officially abandoned its appeal against the deal, marking a notable victory in the gaming industry. The FTC had been contesting the acquisition since its announcement in 2022, filing an antitrust lawsuit in December of that year. Their main concern was that the merger could "harm competition in multiple dynamic and fast-growing gaming markets." Despite the acquisition taking place in October 2023, the FTC continued its fight, attempting to challenge the court's decision through an appeal. However, the 9th Circuit Court rejected this appeal earlier this month, leading to the FTC's decision to drop the case entirely. In an official statement, the FTC acknowledged that dismissing the litigation was in the public interest. Microsoft’s president, Brad Smith, celebrated the ruling on social media, framing it as a win for gamers and a demonstration of "common sense in Washington, DC." He expressed gratitude to the FTC for its announcement. Since the acquisition, Microsoft has made efforts to maintain a broad gaming environment. Notably, they have continued to support popular titles like Call of Duty on PlayStation while also expanding their Xbox Studios games to various platforms. For example, Obsidian's Grounded is now available on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. Additionally, the recent release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5 and the upcoming revamped edition of Gears of War for PlayStation later this year showcase Microsoft's commitment to inclusivity in gaming. To summarise: FTC drops its appeal against Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Legal battle began in 2022 with antitrust concerns from the FTC. Microsoft continues to support multi-platform gaming post-acquisition. Significant games like Call of Duty remain available on PlayStation. Future titles, including Gears of War, are set to launch on PlayStation platforms.
Sony has made the decision to end its PlayStation Stars loyalty programme after three years of operation. Launched in July 2022, the programme allowed players to earn reward points redeemable for PSN wallet funds and various store products. It eventually became accessible in the UK later that same year. Despite its closure, Sony reassures that the programme may return in some form as they evaluate player engagement and preferences. Here’s a breakdown of what this means for current and prospective members: Key Details: As of now, Sony is no longer accepting new members into the PlayStation Stars programme. Current members who choose to cancel will lose any accumulated points and will not be able to rejoin this version of the programme. Existing members can continue to earn points and redeem rewards until July 23, 2026, at 3:59 PM UK time (7:59 AM PDT, 11:59 PM JST). After this date, no new campaigns will be available, but digital collectables will remain accessible. Sony has indicated that they are learning from this programme and will be looking for ways to evolve their loyalty efforts in the future. In their official statement, Sony noted, "Since launching the programme, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends." This suggests that the end of PlayStation Stars may pave the way for a revamped loyalty programme that better aligns with player interests. Interestingly, at the time of launch, Sony clarified that their Digital Collectables were not NFTs, nor were they tradable or reliant on blockchain technology. While the future of PlayStation Stars remains uncertain, it's clear that this is not the last we’ll hear of the programme. For more details, you can check the PlayStation Blog. }
Sony has recently announced that it is considering additional price hikes for its products, primarily due to a projected impact of approximately 100 billion yen (around £513 million) from US tariffs. This was revealed during a conversation with investors following the release of the company's latest financial results. Currently, Sony has stockpiled about three months' worth of PS5 consoles in the US. However, they are evaluating the necessity of passing on these increased costs to consumers. It is important to note that just recently, Sony raised the price of the PS5 by £40/€50 across several regions including the UK, mainland Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. This marks the second price increase for the PS5 in the UK during this console generation, following a previous increase in 2022. In Japan, the PS5 also saw a price increase in August 2024, which means it now costs roughly £170 more than its launch price. Interestingly, there has been no announcement regarding a similar price increase for the PS5 in the US market, and the anticipated PS5 Pro has yet to see any price adjustments in the UK or elsewhere. An alternative strategy that Sony might consider is to raise prices on other electronics in order to absorb some of the costs associated with the PS5, especially since the console has maintained a strong position against competitors like Xbox this generation. In light of the ongoing tariff situation, there has been some positive movement, as the US has reportedly backed down from enforcing the most severe aspects of its tariff plans on China, reaching an agreement to lower levies for at least the next 90 days. This uncertain environment has led companies like Nintendo to shift their focus towards producing the upcoming Switch 2 consoles in Vietnam for the US market. Sony executive Hiroki Totoki mentioned that moving some PS5 production to the US could be an efficient strategy moving forward. He stated, "Hardware can of course be produced locally... it needs to be considered going forward." In the broader context, Microsoft has recently announced price increases for both the Xbox Series X and S, while Nintendo has increased the launch price of various Switch 2 accessories and is contemplating a price rise for the console itself if the tariff situation worsens.
In recent weeks, the gaming industry has seen a significant increase in prices for consoles and video games. For instance, Microsoft has raised prices for all Xbox consoles and accessories, and Nintendo introduced a new Switch model priced at £396, along with first-party games costing £75. Sony's PS5 Pro has also hit a staggering £700. These price hikes have sparked discussions not just about affordability, but about the very concept of ownership in gaming. The core issue revolves around the broader implications of these rising costs. While inflation and external economic factors play a role, there's a troubling trend of companies shifting more towards subscription models, potentially undermining the traditional notion of ownership. As platforms like Xbox Game Pass gain traction, the idea of merely accessing games rather than owning them may become the norm. This shift mirrors trends in music and film, where physical ownership is increasingly supplanted by streaming services. Moreover, the psychological impact of pricing cannot be overlooked. Consumers often feel the pinch of high costs. While historical context shows that games have always been pricey, the current landscape raises concerns about accessibility and the future of gaming culture. As developers face pressure from rising production costs, the sustainability of the traditional gaming model is in question. Ultimately, the ongoing shift towards subscription services poses a philosophical dilemma: is a model that allows more people to play games at a lower cost worth the sacrifice of ownership? In a landscape where collectors and preservationists are increasingly marginalized, the long-term consequences of this change remain uncertain. Key Points: Recent price hikes in consoles and games raise concerns about affordability and ownership. The trend towards subscription models (e.g., Xbox Game Pass) challenges traditional notions of game ownership. Historical price comparisons may not adequately reflect the current economic realities consumers face. The psychological impact of pricing is significant, affecting consumer confidence and behaviour. The future of gaming may increasingly lean towards access rather than ownership, with possible implications for preservation and culture.
Google's recent launch of the Veo 3 AI video generator has sparked significant discussion in the gaming community. This advanced tool can create lifelike Fortnite gameplay clips that are nearly indistinguishable from real footage, raising both excitement and concern regarding the implications of such technology. Key Features of Veo 3: Capable of generating realistic video clips from simple text prompts. Includes life-like audio, enhancing the believability of the content. Users have quickly begun crafting fake gameplay clips that could easily fool viewers on social media. While the technology showcases remarkable advancements in AI, it also poses pressing questions beyond copyright issues. The potential for disinformation is significant—users can create convincing fake content that undermines trust in legitimate media. As one observer noted, "I cannot tell if this is real or not," highlighting the tool's ability to blur the lines between authentic and fabricated content. Concerns Raised: The capability to generate realistic media raises ethical concerns regarding misinformation. The tool's access to vast amounts of existing Fortnite gameplay data raises questions about copyright and content ownership. Similar AI developments by Microsoft, such as their Muse program, prompt fears about the impact on human creativity and job security in game development. Ultimately, while AI innovations like Veo 3 offer exciting possibilities for content creation, they also necessitate a careful examination of their societal implications. As the technology evolves, so too must our understanding of its potential risks and benefits. Summary of Key Points: Google’s Veo 3 generates realistic Fortnite clips using AI. Concerns about disinformation and copyright arise. The technology blurs the line between real and fake media. Ethical implications regarding creativity and job security in gaming are debated.
It appears Ubisoft is moving forward with a new "AAA" Rayman game following last year's "exploration phase." Recent job listings have confirmed that Ubisoft Milan is actively seeking talent, including a 3D gameplay animator and a senior game designer, to work on this prestigious title. In October 2022, Ubisoft acknowledged the formation of a small team to explore the Rayman franchise, with the involvement of developers from the now-disbanded Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team. Their initial work on a remake of Rayman seemed promising enough for Ubisoft to greenlight full development. The announcement has generated excitement among fans, especially considering the success of the studios involved, such as Ubisoft Montpellier and Milan, known for hits like Mario + Rabbids and Rayman Legends. However, there are concerns regarding the involvement of original Rayman creator Michel Ancel, whose past accusations of toxic leadership led to his departure from Ubisoft. Although he was initially brought on as a consultant, his current status with the project remains unclear. Amidst these developments, Ubisoft has been navigating challenges, including layoffs and studio closures, while also focusing on its major franchises. The revival of Rayman could signify a strategic move to bolster their portfolio as they address recent setbacks. For Rayman enthusiasts, this news is a ray of hope, hinting at a potential return to form for one of gaming's beloved characters. Ubisoft confirms full development of a new Rayman game. Job listings indicate search for key positions in the project. Original creator Michel Ancel's involvement raises concerns. Ubisoft continues to navigate challenges in the gaming industry. Revival signals potential strengthening of Ubisoft's franchise strategy.
A further update from Steam A note about the security of your Steam account The recent leak being reported did NOT breach Steam systems You may have seen reports of leaks of older text messages that had previously been sent to Steam customers. We have examined the leak sample and have determined this was NOT a breach of Steam systems. We’re still digging into the source of the leak, which is compounded by the fact that any SMS messages are unencrypted in transit, and routed through multiple providers on the way to your phone. The leak consisted of older text messages that included one-time codes that were only valid for 15-minute time frames and the phone numbers they were sent to. The leaked data did not associate the phone numbers with a Steam account, password information, payment information or other personal data. Old text messages cannot be used to breach the security of your Steam account, and whenever a code is used to change your Steam email or password using SMS, you will receive a confirmation via email and/or Steam secure messages. You do not need to change your passwords or phone numbers as a result of this event. It is a good reminder to treat any account security messages that you have not explicitly requested as suspicious. We recommend regularly checking your Steam account security at any time at https://store.steampowered.com/account/authorizeddevices We also recommend setting up the Steam Mobile Authenticator if you haven’t already, as it gives us the best way to send secure messages about your account and your account’s safety.
It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Microsoft, with Xbox making headlines across the industry — and now we’ve got a clearer picture of what’s coming next. Thanks to well-known Xbox community figure Klobrille, a freshly updated roadmap has been shared, laying out everything Xbox Game Studios is working on, both now and in the years ahead. This updated roadmap (as of May 2025) doesn’t just look forward — it also stretches all the way back to 2020, offering a great retrospective on how packed Xbox’s release schedule has been. Among the latest updates are some exciting surprises: the sudden drop of Oblivion Remastered, a spot for Gears of War: Reloaded in the lineup, and the movement of Towerborne — once a Game Preview title — into the active projects section. Even with a hectic start to the year, what’s coming in the next six months alone is seriously impressive. We’re talking about heavy hitters like DOOM: The Dark Ages, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, The Outer Worlds 2, and of course, Gears Reloaded. There’s even word of a collaboration with PlatinumGames on Ninja Gaiden 4. Seeing it all mapped out really drives home just how stacked the upcoming slate is.
