I'm not sure what the Raiders were thinking when they signed McDaniels to a 6-year deal. He should've been blacklisted from the head coaching ranks after that stunt he pulled with the Colts following his disastrous stint with the Broncos. What did the Raiders see in him in the first place? This needs to be his final NFL head coaching stint. The Las Vegas Raiders fired coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler late Tuesday night, the team announced. Linebackers coach Antonio Pierce will assume the role of interim head coach.
The Raiders are 3-5 this season and 9-16 since McDaniels took over in 2022. They have failed to score more than 19 points on offense in a game this season.
McDaniels was given a six-year contract by the Raiders in 2022 and Las Vegas are obligated to pay the four-plus years remaining on the deal.
The Raiders also announced they are promoting assistant general manager Champ Kelly to interim general manager. The team said it is "committed to undergo a comprehensive search for a general manager once the season is complete."
Right after the trade deadline, when they could've (should've) gone full rebuild mode beforehand… But the right decision nonetheless, even if it should've been made sooner.
