The Ukrainians continue to be disappointed by Donald Trump - so we're basically back where we were months ago.

About the US Russia summit in Hungary.

I was thinking it was just another futile exercise like Alaska, but then I guess that all those involved get something out of it.

Russia again gets brought in from the cold diplomatically. It gets to rub the EU's nose in the fact that Putin is talking with the Americans bilaterally about the future of Ukraine in an EU and NATO country.

The US gets another chance to court Russia away from China, and it buys time for the senators seeking increased Ukraine support, as he claims they are engaging in a peace process.

The Hungarians get to put their thumb on their nose and wave their fingers at Von der Leyen and ingratiate themselves with their two favourite leaders.

Ukraine are the ones left looking in from the outside again, which is ridulous no matter how you look at it.

Does anything come from this? Not likely. The Russians want more than a freeze.

Donald Trump urged Volodymyr Zelenskyy to accept Russia's terms for ending its war in a volatile White House meeting on Friday, warning that Vladimir Putin had said he would "destroy" Ukraine if it did not agree.

The meeting between the US and Ukrainian presidents descended many times into a "shouting match", with Trump "cursing all the time", people familiar with the matter said.

They added that the US president tossed aside maps of the frontline in Ukraine, insisted Zelenskyy surrender the entire Donbas region to Putin, and repeatedly echoed talking points the Russian leader had made in their call a day earlier.

Though Ukraine ultimately managed to swing Trump back to endorsing a freeze of the current front lines, the acrimonious meeting appeared to reflect the capricious nature of Trump's position on the war and his willingness to endorse Putin's maximalist demands.

Putin has obviously told Trump that he will now draw a line where the Russians have now occupied Ukraine and make that the new Russian border.

I heard Trump this morning saying that the fighting should stop now and that will end the war.

He did not say that Putin should withdraw all his troops back to Russia. So that in effect means that Ukraine must surrender their territory to Russia. Just like the Palestinians must surrender their territory to the Israelis.

That is the way Trump thinks that he can end wars. Basically telling those who have been invaded to surrender.

What sort of message does that send to the aggressors

It's job done for Putin, he will just call Trump again when he looks like he might act in Ukraine's favour. Putin will then tell Trump that he is willing to trade land that doesn't belong to him for land that doesn't belong to him and Trump will pressure Zelenskyy. Repeat as needed.

There was never going to be a meeting. Putin needed to stop Trump from selling Tomahawk missiles.

Job done. Trump played like a fiddle yet again.

Questions need to be asked about Trump. How many times will he accept being humiliated, allowing the US to be humiliated, before he stands up against Putin.

Breaking news on Sky.

The US Treasury Department has announced that Russia's two largest oil producers have been included in its latest sanctions against the country.

It said the sanctions, which include designating Rosneft and Lukoil, have been imposed due to "Russia's lack of serious commitment to a peace process to end the war in Ukraine".

The sanctions will increase pressure on Russia's energy sector and "degrade the Kremlin's ability to raise revenue for its war machine and support its weakened economy", the department added.

The UK government included Rosneft and Lukoil in its latest sanctions package on Russia last week.

I still can't get my head around Trump.

Surely every day he gets intel and is briefed on how Russia and China are actively against Europe and America, yet he doesn't seem to care.

China are just biding their time for the right moment.
