And keep the underwhelming Latifi? Surely that can't be accurate?

It's really hard to judge Russell given that Latifi is a pay driver who nobody rates and Kubica was highly rated once but in reality, his come back as someone who'd been out of the sport for a decade and who only had one fully functioning arm was probably never going to set the world on fire and expectations were simply way too high based on his previous career.

If he ended up partnering someone like Perez that would be a real test.

True. It could be that Latifi is getting 100% out of the car and Russell is brilliantly outdriving it, or they are getting 60 and 80% respectively and both are crap.

We know Perez is a solid mediocre mid-tier driver. Never wins a championship or comes close but in the middle of the pack solidly. If he beats Russell then it speaks for itself.

Good decision IMO. Alpha Tauri is a better seat for him until either Max moves on or something becomes available elsewhere up the grid.

There will be a lot of debate about the ethics of this, but money talks I guess.

I just hope whatever the circuit looks like that it can provide entertaining races. I know it's a street circuit so my hopes are not high.

Formula 1 has unveiled a record-length provisional calendar for the 2021 season as the sport plans to return to racing around the globe.

22 races have been named for next year and a 23rd slot has also been kept open in April should a replacement be found for Vietnam.

George Russell will get the opportunity of a lifetime when he drives the world championship-winning Mercedes W11 in this weekend's Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain, as a replacement for Lewis Hamilton who tested positive for Covid-19.

Mercedes opened talks with Williams about borrowing the Briton, who has been backed by the Silver Arrows throughout his career, for the second Bahrain race when it became clear Hamilton was in isolation and would not be able to drive.

Williams reserve Jack Aitken will replace Russell at Williams, joining regular driver Nicholas Latifi.

I don't think F1 drivers should be allowed to go from one team to another just for one race, F11 teams should have to use their reserve driver or one that isn't part of a team. I hope Russell gets a good result this weekend
