The post raises a relevant concern but lacks specific details and context to fully engage the community. It feels more like a personal reflection than a comprehensive discussion or inquiry.

If she just came out and said I am making sacrifices now for the benefit of my kids in August, I would be firmly behind that.

All of my anger towards the response of late has centred around anger at my kids' school education and experience being shattered.
I think that's probably quite typical of a lot of people who're getting fed up with the restrictions. We were told it would be a grown-up conversation, but until the backlash over schools all we got was "guided by the science". If we were given a target or an outcome to work towards, people might be a bit more "on-board" or understanding with the restrictions instead of the growing opposition/frustration. Although that wouldn't help with the economic mess.

The UK's coronavirus alert level has been downgraded from four to three.

Under level three, the virus is now considered to be "in general circulation" and there could be a "gradual relaxation of restrictions". Previously transmission was considered to be "high or rising exponentially".

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the change was "a big moment for the country" and showed that the government's plan was working.

The decision to reduce the threat level followed a recommendation by the Joint Biosecurity Centre, the chief medical officers for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland said.

We are down to two known active cases as of today (Nova Scotia). The premier mentioned that our bubble may be expanded to include the four Atlantic provinces soon (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador). We'll see how that goes...

Studies have shown that the virus was likely spreading, in Italy, back in December.

The article also states that a man, in France, who was hospitalised with pneumonia (also back in December) was later discovered to have been positive at the time.

If that's the case for Italy and France then it must have been present in a lot of other countries - earlier than initially thought.

Update from the daughter's school yesterday.

When they go back in August S1 to S3 will start at 8.50 am, have 2 x 75 minute periods, and go home at 11.20 am. Only positive is that they will be in all 5 days. Can't see them having any practical classes at all.

S4-S6 will be in for 2 x 85 min periods in the afternoons.

What authority is that? Do you know if that's the policy across the region or if individual schools have had more of a say?

The R number in Germany has risen.
The coronavirus reproduction rate, known as the R number, has jumped to 1.79 in Germany.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for public health confirmed the rate was now far above what is needed to contain the outbreak over the longer term.

The R number equates to how many people, on average, will be infected by each person who has COVID-19.

An R of 1.79 means 100 people who get the virus will infect 179 others.

Glasgow. I'm guessing it might have to vary from school to school, her school has 3 entrances so they can use one for each age group.

My two are in SLC primary and they're planning for half school Monday and Tuesday, clean Wednesday, off on Thursday and Friday. If the numbers keep going the way they are I reckon they'll be back as close to normal as absolutely possible though, maybe with 1m distancing

This should set off alarm bells for the UK Government, time-wise the UK as a whole is a good three weeks behind Germany, they should be at least three weeks behind with opening-up but they are not. I think they (in England especially) are rushing into things and it could be a disaster.

Other countries are also reporting rises in cases - South Korea, China etc.
