Please correct me if I'm wrong, but suspending elections in war time is in the Ukrainian constitution and not Zelensky's decision, isn't it?
Facts don't matter in the eyes of Trump and his supporters. The leader of Zelensky's biggest opposition was on telly last week saying all parties support him continuing as leader of the country.

The Trump government is doing its best to ensure the rest of the world never relies upon or, more importantly, trusts an American product ever again.

Some news coming from the US/Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia today...

The United States "will immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine", a joint statement from the US and Ukraine, shared by the US State Department, says.

Ukraine says it is ready to accept the US proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire after today's peace talks, it reads.

The proposed ceasefire will be extendable by mutual agreement of both parties, and is subject to acceptance and implementation by Russia, the statement adds.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy accepts 30-day ceasefire proposal. He has thanked the US team for constructive talks in Saudi Arabia.

The Ukrainian president says the 30-day ceasefire proposal covers the frontline, not just the air and sea exclusively.

"The American side understands our arguments, accepts our proposals, and I want to thank president Trump for the constructiveness of the conversation between our teams," he said in a statement on Telegram.

Zelenskyy confirms Ukraine has accepted the ceasefire proposal, adding "we consider it positive and we are ready to take this step".

Positive steps today, hopefully, the beginning of the end of the war but it remains to be seen what Russia says.

Definitely a positive step. Good to hear some good news for a change. But, it is only a small step, the biggest victory for Ukraine today will have been the resumption of US intelligence and military support.

All eyes are on Russia now, this is a step in the right direction. We need the killing to stop hopefully at some point.

Hope this isn't true.

It's a 30-day ceasefire to enable negotiations so nothing, including Russian sanctions, should be off the table but it can't be a condition of the ceasefire.

The Ukrainians certainly aren't going to stop if the Russians aren't, and Putin won't stop unless he gets all his demands, which is why its unlikely they will accept. One thing this does is eliminate Ukraine from being perceived as an impediment to peace. The ball is now in Putin's court.

Russia does not want a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine

Russia does not want a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine and is pushing for a long-term peace settlement that will take into account its interests and concerns, a senior aide to Vladimir Putin has said.

Yuri Ushakov, the Russian president's foreign policy adviser, told state television on Thursday that the 30-day ceasefire proposed after talks between the US and Ukraine was "nothing other than a temporary breather for Ukrainian troops".

Ushkov said that Moscow "expects the US will take into account Russia's positions in further work together", according to state media.
