So, who is everyone rooting for then?
Vettel is a good outside bet IMO. I'm not really bothered who wins, tbh, I just want to see some competitive racing

Will Vettel not end up at Renault?

A factory team, new regs for 2021 (or are they suspended). He got all his titles with Renault engines and there is currently a free seat there. Everyone is looking at Mercedes and going back to Redbull but I cannot really see either of those things happening.

Less of a personality problem than Alonso as far as I can see and people keep mentioning him for Renault. Like Alsono, he brings weight and finance as a World Champion.

I think it's a paddock "secret" that Alonso is coming back to Renault at this stage.

I'm a huge Alonso fan, he's a great driver but Renault doesn't need the toxic influence that comes with him. I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole if Renault have any sense they will go for Vettel

Fernando Alonso to return to Formula 1 with Renault in 2021.
Fernando Alonso is set to return to Formula 1 with Renault next year.

The Spanish two-time world champion, who will be 39 later this month, has signed and will be confirmed soon, sources have told BBC Sport.

Alonso will return to the outfit with whom he won his World Championships, and for whom he has already driven twice during his career.

He left F1 in 2018 and is due to make a third attempt to win the Indianapolis 500 with McLaren in August.

A spokesperson for Renault said the team "declined to comment on rumours".

Fernando Alonso to return to Formula 1 with Renault in 2021.
Alonso coming back has mixed emotions with me.

He was a fantastic driver but most probably agree that the comeback won't go the fairytale way that we always want.

There's so many young future stars coming in too at the same time.

Still shocked Hulkenberg can't get a drive. It's mind boggling to me as I think he's better than a good few drivers on that grid. But we've seen this before in F1.

Think this announcement also is pretty much confirming that Vettel will not be back. No where for him to go.

Alonso must be getting a big paycheck to return because Renault aren't going to be competitive for the next few years.

Toto has said numerous times Mercedes are considering him but I'm not really sure Vettel wants to drive next year.

It'll come down to the performance from Bottas this season in all likelihood. I don't think Hamilton will get a say, no matter how friendly he is with Toto. The people I feel bad for are Ocon and George Russell, who basically get skipped. But, as you say Vettel maybe doesn't want a drive and could take a year away from the sport.

If Vettel gets the Mercedes drive it'll be for one or two seasons max. Then Russell will get the nod, don't see Ocon getting a Mercedes seat now.
