A brilliant display. This win is a significant departure from PSG's past struggles in Europe, often labelled as "chokers" despite their star-studded line-ups. Under the leadership of Luis Enrique, the team demonstrated a newfound resilience and tactical discipline that had been missing in previous campaigns. Their aggressive early-game strategy, which has defined their Champions League run, proved decisive once again, allowing them to control the match and dismantle Inter's defences.
So, the European spots were decided on a dramatic last day of the 2024-25 campaign. Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy while Chelsea, Manchester City, and Newcastle United have qualified for next season’s Champions League. Goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Erling Haaland did the business for Pep Guardiola’s City, while Levi Colwill scored the only goal between Chelsea and Nottingham Forest. Newcastle were beaten 1-0 by Everton, but thanks to Manchester United’s home win against 10-man Aston Villa, they will return to the Champions League for the second time in three years. Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah capped off a brilliant season with his 29th league goal in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
The only reason Monaco remains on the F1 calendar is the history and prestige linked with the race and track. Ultimately, it is the most boring race of the season. Despite the strategic complexities introduced by the two-stop rule, the race outcome mirrored the starting grid, with the top four finishing in the same order they began. This consistency raises questions about the fundamental challenge of overtaking in Monaco, where the narrow streets hinder overtaking manoeuvres. Also, and very notably, team tactics played a significant role, particularly for Williams and Racing Bulls, who effectively utilised their drivers to assist each other in gaining positions. Williams' strategy led to a double-points finish, contrasting sharply with the struggles faced by Mercedes, whose drivers ended up finishing last after a series of poor decisions and penalties.
Sunderland has been promoted to the English Premier League for the upcoming season! This marks a significant achievement for the club, as it's been 8 long years since they last played in the top tier of English football. Joining Sunderland in this promotion are Leeds United and Burnley, making it a trio of teams moving up from the Championship. It’s worth noting that Sunderland has the youngest squad in the Championship, which has played a crucial role in their success this season. With this promotion, there are a lot of questions about how Sunderland will perform in the Premier League. Given their young squad, it could be a mix of challenges and opportunities. Promotion: Sunderland returns to the Premier League after 8 years. Young Team: They have the youngest squad in the Championship, which could be an advantage. Next Season: How will they fare against the established teams in the Premier League? What are your thoughts on Sunderland's chances next season? Can they hold their own in the top flight?
A drama-drenched penultimate weekend saw both Napoli and Inter Milan draw, meaning the Serie A title race will go down to the final matches. Managers Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi were also sent off from the touchline, meaning neither will be on the touchline for the last league game of the season 🟥 Napoli currently holds a one-point lead over Inter going into games against Cagliari and Como, respectively. Sure, there will be plenty of final-day drama.
Verstappen got lucky with the first safety car, but then made it easy to drive away again. Good drive from him. McLaren managed to mess Piastri up badly, and they will likely be disappointed they couldn't get the win. It tightens the championship up at the very least and if Red Bull's upgrades are any good then it could be some battle this year. I'd rather see Imola on the race calendar than Monaco
Well, that was a borefest. The top 6 from qualifying finished the race in the exact same position. It was a terrible race, but well done, Verstappen. He was comfortable throughout in a car that had no right being in first place. I think McLaren is going to suffer until one of their drivers opens a points gap on the other and can get preference on strategy. Antonelli looks like a great prospect; he was firing out fast laps right to the end.
"Tush Push" vote tabled by NFL Owners NFL owners tabled a proposal to ban the play on Tuesday during the league's annual meeting. The discussions that sparked drama throughout the week will continue indefinitely, rolling until a resolution is reached on whether the play is amended, prohibited or left alone. A formal push to ban the play began when the Green Bay Packers submitted a proposal to the NFL's competition committee in February. Packers coach Matt LaFleur, speaking with reporters Tuesday, cited "injury concerns" and that "I don't think it's a great football play, it's more of a rugby play" for reasons why to remove it from the game. The latter was an irrelevant statement of opinion; the former a recycled assertion that the league itself has found no evidence to support. Proposal to change playoff format gets tabled Under this proposal, a wild-card team could be seeded higher than a division-winning team if the wild-card team has a better record. All division winners would still be guaranteed a playoff berth, but they wouldn't be guaranteed a home playoff game. If this rule had been in place last season, the 14-3 Vikings would have been the third seed in the NFC instead of the fifth seed. Apparently, quite a few teams liked this idea. Instead of voting it down, the owners decided to table it until the next league meeting in May, so it could get approved then. The NFL's next league meeting is May 20-21 in Minnesota, so if there's a vote on the new playoff seeding format or the "Tush Push," that's when they'll take place. The NFL also made a few announcements that didn't involve any rule changes and one of those involved the 2025 schedule. The league revealed that there will be a Christmas tripleheader in 2025. The holiday, which is on a Thursday this year, will feature two games on Netflix and one on Amazon.
Still no idea how they are going to fund this, they have not made a profit for six years and are £1billion in debt. Ratcliffe claimed they would have "gone bust by Christmas" if they had not made hundreds of office staff redundant, cut free lunches and stopped funding the former players' association. So where is the money coming from? Seemingly, the only way this is going to be built is if the majority of it is funded by someone else. Ratcliffe isn't putting his hands too deep into his pockets, and the Glazers are the Glazers so they won't fund this.
Oscar Piastri led Lando Norris to a dominant McLaren one-two in the Chinese Grand Prix ahead of George Russell's Mercedes. Charles Leclerc drove an outstanding race in a Ferrari with a damaged front wing, his pace forcing Ferrari to order team-mate Lewis Hamilton out of his way. But the pair were disqualified after the race - seemingly for separate technical infringements - along with Alpine's Pierre Gasly. During the race, Leclerc lost fourth place to Red Bull's Max Verstappen with four laps to go as the world champion's car found some pace in the second half of the race. What a weird race. After initially looking like the tyres might go off a cliff, it turned out they could go on forever, with very little degradation.
