A dynamic explosive movement where the dancer uses a powerful kick and core contraction to "kip" the body upward into a grip or climb. Borrowed from martial arts and breakdance techniques.
A hands-free or semi-hands-free hold where the pole is gripped tightly between the knee joint and the calf/hamstring. Often used in inverted positions or as a transitional hold.
A foundational grip where the pole is hooked behind the knee, allowing the dancer to hang, spin, or transition with partial body weight supported by the leg. Used in countless spins, climbs, and inverted tricks.
A grip where the pole fits into the soft area behind the knee ("knee pit"), creating strong leverage for spins, hangs, and transitions. Used heavily in upside-down moves.
A variation of beginner spins (such as fireman) where one knee hooks to help guide the rotation. It creates a more compact, controlled circular motion and often feels "safer" for new dancers.
A transitional move where the knees pull tightly toward the chest while gripping the pole with the arms. Used frequently in spins and aerial transitions to change shape or direction.
A beginner-friendly hold where the dancer embraces the pole with the inner thigh, calf, and arms in a hugging position - much like a koala clinging to a tree. Often a prerequisite to learning sits and climbs.
A highly advanced grip where one arm reaches behind the back to hold the pole, creating extreme shoulder rotation. Used in elite handspring and iron-X entries.
